What an absolute joke of a fine, i hear they are trying to ban a trainer for life atm, for positives ,yet they hand out fines as miniscule as this...

GUTLESS!!!

PRESS RELEASE INQUIRY – TRAINER MR S J GRAY

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that an inquiry was held at its offices on Wednesday, 30 September 2015 into possible contraventions by Trainer S J Gray of NHA Rule 10.5.16 and Sub-Rule 10.5.16.1

Mr Gray was charged with a contravention of Rule 10.5.16 in that he had in his possession at his stables on 28 July 2015, medicines or drugs listed in Schedules 3 – 7 of the MED ACT, the labels whereof, did not comply with the provisions of this Rule.

Mr Gray pleaded guilty to the charge and was found guilty.

In coming to a penalty, the Board considered all the facts before it and Mr Gray's submissions in mitigation. The Board imposed a fine of three thousand five hundred rand (R3 500.00). Furthermore, Mr Gray was advised to comply strictly with this Rule going forward.

Mr Gray has the Right of Appeal against the penalty imposed.

Perhaps you show find out how it works before ranting about a SMALL fine

Firstly What drug was found?

The drugs held in a stable yard MUST be prescribed by a vet and must have a label stating the name of the horse and the date
Many stables in the past kept a drugs like Buscopan for treatment of mild colic
If a horse got colic, walk it around and given 200cc Busco and most cases they are OK
Now one has to call the Vet and the bill will be R1000.00 minimum

I do not know Mr Gray at all so have no idea as to what he hadin the cupboard
But neither do you!

If there were scheduled drugs found that the stable should not be in possession of then the NHRA must report this to the Medical Control Council as well as the SAPS. If they are not doing this then they should be reported to the MCC & SAPS.

Are trainers allowed to administer 200cc's of Buscopan?

Are trainers allowed to administer 20cc's of Buscopan?

Why would they impose a fine for a drug that has a prescription from a Vet?

No trainer should accept a fine from the NHRA relating to prohibited substances until the MCC & SAPS have made a finding.....

The NHRA is not a recognised Medical Authority empowered to make rulings on prohibited drugs beyond the MCC & SAPS, neither should they they fail to inform them.

Private security firms cannot arrest and prosecute someone for housebreaking and impose a fine or sentence.....

The only reason any trainer does not challenge the NHRA is because they may feel that a R1000 fine is better than getting the SAPS & MCC involved, either way the fine is a joke.

All the records of prohibited substance enquiries and findings by the NHRA should be forwarded to the MCC & SAPS for comment regarding the schedule of the drugs found as well as the quantity and the fines imposed & actions taken by the NHRA. How did the NHRA dispose of these drugs? Who is the responsible Pharmacist? Where were the drugs kept once confiscated?

Surely the fine is lenient as it was not picked up in any runner .......if that had occurred that would have made it a more serious offence .........the "crime" here seems to be more technical than anything else!

The schedule 7 stuff is no joke. That is injectable opiates like morphine AFAIK. So yeah they could get in police trouble if they didn't have appropriate scripts. And doctors don't write S7 scripts lightly, I don't think vets do either I had a dog with cancer and all she was given was S5 tramadol.
My mom has cancer and she doesn't even get s7 medication.
