I met up with Tarry at the coffee stand. We had the bees following us. He said "French Navy and Legal Eagle" were his better horses.
Then at dinner last night Bass Stable mentioned their Helderberg Blue.

All the best with your choices.

Somehow feel that The Conglomerate represents excellent value at his current price, even for a place. I expect a bold showing from him and Majmu.

My top 5 in order of preference

Legal Eagle
The Conglomerate
Majmu
Futura
Deputy Judd

See that Legal Eagle now rated 120 !! I re-looked at the Jubilee Handicap and came to a maximum rating of 116...

Killau Castle - rated 106 but current form is closer to 100
Heavy Metal - rated 104 but current form is closer to 98
Cagiva - rated 103 but best run since rest is closer to 100
Judicial - rated 101 but current form is closer to closer to 98
Meissa 0 rated 98 but no form since rest

Eurakilon and Rushmore River - rated 91 but running closer to 86/87

Using Killau Castle, Heavy Metal, Judicial, Eurakilon and Rushmore River gives a rating between 112 and 116...the 120 rating only becomes valid if any of the horses ran to the current ratings they have and I couldn't see it...

I'll stick to Wylie Hall...with Majmu as cover considering all the horses she has beaten have gone on to win multiple GR1's subsequently...

All the best to all Clanners and may your selections come home lonely... :cheer:

Just going by the gallops alone my top three were:
  • GOLD ONYX
  • HALVE THE DEFICIT
  • THE CONGLOMERATE

With these type of shows the presenters dont give us their negative vibes - perhaps they think they will bring racing into disrepute. Putting my chilogo on the block I thought the worst performance was Helderberg Blue.

And for me the best companions were
  • ANJAAL
  • SOLID SPEED

The photography quality of the three from Gauteng was rubbish and not fit for TV. Probably taken with someone's cheap cell phone. Did Tellina get beat by his companion?

Kzn racing is doomed if there will be no intervention
Standards are dropping each year here
The track at Greyville needs new grass
The track is too narrow and the July will be affected
Stopping trainers coming here has led to poor racing
The presentation of the gallops were poor
Personally i dont want to listen to Deez Lanferna Shea Locke.
GC never keeps its patrons imformed
And Bob if you make Deez the best presenter we in serious trouble

Even at 116, LE is still carrying 2 kg's less than he should be B)

I don't put much faith in the gallops - too many variables and this year we have the Poly to confuse things even more - little more than a publicity stunt imo

The state of the grass track is a big concern - horses that are not 100% sound and need some 'give in the ground' to produce their best might be in trouble. So on face value I think most people agree that the race lies between Futura, Wyllie Hall, Majmu, Legal Eagle and maybe French Navy, Power King and The Conglomerate - but with the state of the track their could be an upset.

All things being equal I am a believer in the handicap and on that Legal Eagle (given he gets a clear run) is the right horse - and he put up an impressive performance on firm ground in Gauteng in the Jubilee.

Should LE find bad luck in the run-in, I think it lies between Futura and Wyllie Hall - both looked very well during the gallops - slight concern that Justin wanted to 'check out' Futura after the gallop (why did he not put him on the Poly?). Both should be effective off any pace, for me I just prefer Futura as I believe he has the better acceleration

Any one of those 3 winning (as well as Power King and my lunatic Deputy Judd) would give me a nice return - but I suppose one can't ignore Mike de Kock, so I did cover my money on Majmu - and I find myself in the relatively safe position that only 6 of the 18 runners can really hurt me

Thanks Frodo another good summary, I would also add that I don't take much notice of the gallops and considering the grass and poly not comparing apples with apples but was happy with Futura, look forward to next week to finally end the massive speculation that only the JULY can generate

The Conglomerate had a wonderful gallop yesterday. My concern though is still the wide barrier draw, wonder if he will go to the front when gates crash open, seems to be the only option. Can't sit 3 - 4 wide in this race.
