Huge respect ...

Goes out To New Turf Carriers, Justin Snaith Racing Stables and all those who helped in this remarkable rescue, heartwarming to read ..
The Cape Town fires have been unbelievably devastating in the past few days, and they still rage on. Horses and other animals are bing evacuated from the affected areas. South Africa's current Champion Trainer Justin Snaith of Snaith Stables has opened his farm to the displaced horses and other animals. What an truly selfless and generous gesture. Huge thanks must also go to New Turf Carriers Dorrie Sham for evacuating horses at all hours of the night. Choice Carriers have also been involved in moving horses out of affected areas. Massive Thanks to everyone that is helping in this dire situation!!!

All credit for that goes to our sons Marcus, Matthew and Michael as well as the staff based in CT . They were all awake until this morning doing what they could to help in this frightening situation.

Hi all,
I am on the ground in Cape Town and am assisting where possible.
Justin Snaith has really been amazing. Apart from the horses, Sue Snaith has now also volunteered to assist with any wildlife that needs assistance too.
Snaith Racing has also pledged to help with any feed and hay requirements.
The horses are all out of Zwaanswyk and Steenberg Estate and most even out of Tokai.
I was chatting with Matthew Sham at 2AM, and his guys were awesome!
We are still on high alert with regards to the fire by Tokai Plantations. Especially coming down into Tokai Forest.
Thanks all for your thoughts and caring.
Big Ups and thoughts go out to Mike Stewart. The fire was about 200m from his farm at 4AM this morning, but seems to be under control.
If anyone needs to get hold of me, my number is 084 799 8081.
Regards
Jackie

With reference to AHS what will the national vet say to the evacuation of horses by night?
Perhaps the fires will destroy those AHS carrying midges?

Hi Mac,
I have been slightly concerned that the evacuated horses are mostly standing out in paddocks. However the smoke is so thick and the wind gusting at times, that I don't believe the midges would hang around.
We are also mostly moving horses out of the surveillance zone, so the risk of evacuating and spreading AHS would really be minimal.

Anyone with contacts to larger businesses in the Southern Suburb areas?
I have approached Game and am waiting for their feedback.
Builder's Warehouse?
We need stuff for the animals (Food, bowls, blankets, bandages, dettol...)
For Fire Fighters (Goggles, Spades, Chainsaws, Buckets, Brush Cutters, Heavy Duty Gloves..)
For Support Crew (Energy drinks, chocolate, jelly sweets, peanuts, saline solution, sunscreen, lip balm, petroleum jelly, batteries...)
I will be going out there shortly, so PLEASE contact me on my cellphone if you can help 084 799 8081
