Loopy, I thought the implication in my post was that quite clearly not every punter was being permitted to bet on a level playing field but should be entitled to do so. Although I accept that, if every aspect of racing is taken into consideration, then that is probably almost impossible to achieve but there are plenty things that could happen to make it fairer. Connections taking the opening price and relaying info in the same way as Ramsden, Bass etc would go a long way to achieving that imo.
So, yeah probably some races would see a 5/1 shot backed into 1/2, so be it, there will always be punters like me who look for an angle on another horse at big odds prepared to oppose it or like you through your systems looking for alternative place value. What's the issue with that? At least we know that there is another horse that was, just say, potentially a no-hoper that actually may not be that. We can then make our decision as we would otherwise.
I think many on here also forget that they are probably la creme de la creme of punters in terms of horse racing knowledge. Does your average punter understand and can "read" breeding? handicapping and the MR system? And a multitude of other factors. As Mr H correctly (imo) implies, how the hell does racing expect to attract new punters when they have this minefield of information to decipher and the few who can help them make the process a lot simpler slam the door in their face and say, buy a horse and only then we'll tell you a few things!!! Hmmmm, yeah, that certainly will attract a whole load of new punters to fall in love with the game. Nor will the vast majority of potential new punters be enamoured by being told they need a computer and spreadsheet with 632 rules to have a chance of finding a winner (not having a dig Loopy, just saying!
)
I repeat, as everyone knows, long time punters are being lost not new ones gained... everyone needs to wake up and do everything possible to get that reversed. It may not be possible but ffs make an effort, please!

There may be some truth in long term punters being lost since they want to stick to their own ways and racing has evolved since then with BIG DATA and those long term punters are too stubborn parting with their ways...
The information era is here to stay, even in racing. Embrace it or be left behind...carry on in your ways or evolve to be prepared for the future.
Use it...don't use it

so loopy the way a horse looks and behaves in the parade ring and how it goes down to post means absolutely nothing to the way you pick your selections?

Loopy, I really don't give a flying fark what methods people use to come to their final selection. Form, greenies, pin, names, whatever. I would very much hope however that I would not speak in such a (seemingly) derisory and somewhat aloof manner about any punter, whatever their chosen method in arriving at their selections.
I do care though about punters being given every opportunity to come to the right solution whatever their method. I don't really see what data has got to do with "connections" being transparent and I fail to see how it helps the cause here. This is not really a discussion on what is the best method to become a winning punter. It is about punters being given a better chance of coming to the right solution whatever their chosen method... and to find ways of encouraging new people into racing and hopefully preserving the long-term future of racing.

I would love to know which of the 82 rules we use you include in yours...this is not a beauty contest pirates...there is way more to it but how it goes down to post...offcourse
Bud there is a lot of preparation work before they go down to the post...and those are the 82 rules I am referring to.

After experiencing "experts" try and talk me out of some of my best wins,(because they didn't like the "looks" of the horse) I (within reason)don't give a sh!t how they go down anymore.
A large part of my investment is exotics and I can't see most of my selections, in advance anyway!
I realise that everybody has their own method (95% of which statistically fail apparently) but I find that form /ratings/ handicapping and patterns works for me!!!!

Had a message from two yards in kimberley
Saying they need every single rand they can get from the punter in the pools and will both soon either send me their trainer comments or post them their selves
