A team that was that consistently good a few seasons ago should bounce back - A betting opportunity to back them outright in their next 5 or 6 matches perhaps?

Bob, I'm a long time Everton sufferer, so I have no axe to grind regards this topic, but, this is a marathon event you can't write off any team's chances after a solitary game.
Guessing has never been widely acclaimed as a good gambling strategy.

Likewise Bayern,I can remember the season Chelsea nearly went into the old division 3.
I went to every home game that season,it was painfull.
Definately makes you appreciate the good times, trouble is on this forum there are United fans
that are to young to remember any bad times until now,or they only started following them in the 90s.They have plenty of glory hunters,as do Chelsea and City.
But the United fans in particular on this forum,go into their shells when they have a bad defeat.
They go from posting regular to not at all. That lends the argument that most are of the glory hunter variety and only started following them in the good times,so being bad is alien and they don't know how to deal with it.

My opinion is that the defence are not playing for each other. Need to splash out on a couple of enforcers and turf the bystanders. Too many goals being conceded.

I know how to deal with it..first United game I saw (on the telly) was when we beat Liverpool in the 77 FA Cup.....I'm used to the bad old days and ready for the current ones....

On that display they will be lucky to get anything from their next two away games. Sunderland and Burnley will not be pushovers.
Shame really.

Dave... with all due respect. Why do you always say United supporters on this forum?
What do you want us to say?
We played badly and did not win ...end of story.
It is not going to be overnight success. If you or anyone else think otherwise, then your guys are dreaming. It is obvious we need to by another 4 players to compete with the likes of Liverpool, City, Chelsea and possibly Arsenal.
Yesterday we fielded a side whose average age was 23. Having said that, we need to get rid of a few. We can only hope for the best.

@ Rob... I was there
And its Pearson, put through by Greenhoff, Jones is after him, Pearson, shot, goal!!!!!!!!!!!!
The actual word for word Radio 2 commentary for the opening goal (I bought the album lol and still remember the words as clear as I did 35 years ago!)
Let's end this one relatively quickly and hopefully for the season... I will be amazed if United make a serious challenge for the title this year, they simply do not seem to have enough players of top quality and are struggling to find the best team and system with the players they do have, if they sort out the latter then they should certainly improve and hopefully challenge for the Champions League places, but it can really be no more than hope. There were plenty of top quality players on the market this summer and United have simply failed to go and get them. I do not believe, as CnC continually suggests, this is because they are not playing Champions League etc, I just don't think they have made a real effort to get them. I think, as last year, that is partly due to a new manager coming in and wanting to see what he has got first etc. The issue of going for cheaper potential options rather than buying top quality stretches back many seasons and they are suffering from that now. That said, there are still some very good players there and I think some are better than they are given credit for but they have a long, long way to go as a team before they will be feared again, though sometimes that can be achieved much quicker than seems likely. When RVP etc are back they should do a lot better but they can be no more than a watch this space team for this year imo, I live in hope that I am wrong but (as last year sadly!) I will be hoping that this year, at the minimum, United sort out their squad and system and start playing a brand of football that is not only competitive at the highest levels but is also good to watch.

Wasn't Van Gaal supposed to sort this out? Maybe they should bring Moyes back...
