Reading this thread it is clear the operators are damned if they do..... and damned if they dont.

Run the feature on the grass ....if you just take a grass horse and race it on a polytrack reckon going to be some serious breakdowns...

Why is a sensible compromise not appropriate....................if you listen to MdK you would understand WE's comments....................just a little knowledge is a dangerous thing!!!!

This is a situation that GC is going to find itself in next year. The plan is to try and take any meeting to the Polytrack if it cannot be raced on the grass. Mike is right that horses need time to get used to the track and maybe many horses have not really got fully acclimatised to it yet but as Easy says they can scratch. The other option is to race the main race on the grass but if that is really too wet then Poly it has to be unless they want to postpone that race. At least Phumelela is giving the owners and trainers an option to race if they want to. No one has scratched any horse from any race yet due to the change to Polytrack. They want to race.

Apparently the poly is very slippery and horses need to be worked on it to become comfortably sure footed..............no surprise that connections want to race but it may be at a cost!

Harris's point is also valid................does anybody envisage changing the July to the Polytrack if it's raining on the Friday?

I think they would do when I think Right Prerogative won the July. Only that race was run that day but now the preceding races could be run on the Poly and then the July on the fresh grass.

The course is not wide enough...poly vs grass...

Would need a few horses eliminated if no one scratched with change in surface. 16 on grass and 13 on poly.

I don't think it is acceptable to run listed or group races on other than scheduled surfaces!

I think they should be run on the surface that they are supposed to be but if they cannot then must they be abandoned or rescheduled? I will be very interested to see who scratches and who runs.

Another factor to take into account is that everyone is on a learning curve with the Polytrack. Maybe a year down the line from now it would make sense to change surfaces, but after only 3 races run on it it seems ridiculous to run a grade 3 race on it.
