Mr H I agree 100% that we as "humans" have degenerated to such a low that the killing of innocent and healthy animals simply to feed ourselves has become acceptable by the vast majority as has the so called "sport" of hunting and killing defenseless animals in the wild but surely these acts of barbarism cannot justify the killing of a horse that is guilty of nothing more than reaching the end of his/her racing career ? if i had my way the bullet would be saved for those who choose to mistreat and abuse them but as that will never happen I believe that very serious fines and even imprisonment should be handed down to the perpetrators of animal abuse which would help to stop this fucking shit!!!! The redistribution and rehoming of ex racehorses should be far more vigorously monitored and policed so that this scourge can be at the very least minimised if not completely eradicated, but simply washing our hands of these faithful servants once they reach retirement age and having them put down, even "humanly", if there can be such a thing, is definitely not the answer imo...

Too many commercially bred these days and with the competitive nature of racing , the romance is over very quickly for the not so well performed horses with their owners.

The great Sea Cottage was a LEASE horse as were many other top sorts from Birch Bros. Sentinel was a home-bred from Hartford Stud who bred and raced most of their animals.

Breeders should consider more leasing options and racing their own stock.

you said it Titch, the INDUSTRY collectively must take action as all operations revolve around the horse. All in the industry at every level have to take responsibility and act. Hope it gets done. :(
