R:S:Semember watching IGN those days ,a horse called KUNDALINI ,was ridden by striker if my memory serves me rite. The horse was trained by Hilda Podlas.Striker must hav been about 25/26 around that time in 1994 1995.Got up on the line in a tight finish ,was his hallmark for some time.Stand to be corrected.:S

striker best ride happen when he come to joburg from pe. no any of this lead in every race, he use to STRIKE in the last 100m is where he get his nick name. i remember very late 80's/early 90's he and mike azzie have a bad fall out about the way he ride a horse and azzie fire striker. the next meeting azzie has the horse overdog is favourite 5/10 at germiston 1000m, striker take the ride of jean hemming horse tudor ruler at 25/1, well striker is last with 200 to go overdog is well clear. striker come from the impossible position to beet overdog on line. that to me is the best i ever see from striker.

Private Reserve retired with Respiratory problem/ heart condition.
And, yes - Tudor Rullah still remains the ultimate race in my collection, still on video (need to get these onto disc). I was doing Piere's rides at the time. We were confirmed on Overdog, but Piere got beat on an Azzie runner on the Sat, so come Tues, he was jocked off at Scratchings in favour of Dougie Whyte. Ma Heming saw this and basically insisted that Piere ride TR. I wasnt happy, as TR battled to go with the pace in a 1200m at Turff, so how outpaced would TR be in the fastest 1000m course in the world, namely Gosforth?
But, Striker was seriously p'd off about Azzie doing this at the last minute, to say the least, so I took the ride without him knowing, simply based on my "no ticket, no chance "attitude, together with my huge respect for Ma Heming as a Trainer.
It is not often (the only time ever? ) that Graeme Hawkins is flustered at the finish, when calling a race. He had basically called it all over, Underdog cruising to an easy win, at odds of 3 to 10. After all, Striker was 11 lengths off going through the 400 and still 8 lengths to go with 200m left to run.
He got up on the line, he was absolutely over the moon. And Ma Heming had that customary, knowing smile..... The race was later unofficially labelled, "the race of the decade"
Thanks for the memory, Kittycatoo!

Wonder if Louis can perhaps get that video on youtube or mayby Bonski can make a plan ?Great story, Striker bites you from anywhere when underestimated, still a champ 20 years later:)-D

I cannot see which videos have been attached due to my work blocking it, but his best ride is surely the one on JJ the Jet Plane to beat Crabbia's horse in Singapore (i think).

So many great rides from Striker but his ride on Slumdog a few weeks ago was out of the top drawer.

Hilda Podlas owned Kundalini and was trained by Pat Shaw.....Striker won on her only once in a Graduation plate at Gosforth Park in 1993
the finish not so tight as there was a 1.5l distance to runner up Ziniski ridden by Mawing.....:S
