Just Curious!!
12 years 2 months ago
I know some guys don't think reigning champ SA jockey Marcus is up2 international standard, such as Ryan Moore, Hughes,etc..but I poise a question-i haven't watch as many races nor been in racing near as long as some posters here,so I am not picking on ne1 or anything..just curious2 know.. If Marcus, our champ jock, is not good enough to race with the best in the world..then which 1 or 1s of our jockeys are? Dougie white is holding his own in HongKong and The Governor wasn't doing too bad in Aus..Muis kicked ass in UK..but from our current(only SA)riderS..who will hold der own in the UK?not hong kong or dubai or singapore, but UK? Becasue I knw 4 a fact the UK riders r freaking good..@ Chicken and Chips,I'm nt tryna challenge u, because I know u commented abt Marcus riding with Moore, but I'm just curious cz as I said,iv nt been in racing and am not experienced as u lads are?cheers clan, gudnyt

I say marcus is world class.
No matter wat anyone says.
Go back to the replay of jay peg and u'll see why heza, just saying he's real world class.
Sure moore, and them are diff class, because they are ona diff stage,
Give marcus sum time to settle with them and he'll ride the them to sleep 8 days a week,

Sheza, imo, in many ways it is very difficult to compare. The overall standard of jocks in the UK (many of whom are Irish) is to me far superior than those in SA so, when Marcus or PS does something that looks brilliant, if they were up against UK jocks then they might not look so good. Hope that makes sense. I am not knocking SA jocks but I don't think you can really compare until they race against each other over a period of time... the French lad Guyon who came over, to my untrained eye, just looked in a different class to many SA jocks... but then so do AM and PS and there are other decent jocks about too.

Douh Whyte is the best international jock we currently have on a world stage, has beaten all comers from all countries and won the HK championship 12 times, shortly to be 13. These are records that no jocky let alone SA jocks have smelt before....
Marcus, Dalpech, Striker, B Faydh, Glyn S, for me are all world class.
Englander, to say that on average UK jocks are better is just too general a statement & i for one think there is very little between the top jock's the world over. Chris Soum, Brett Preb, Frankie, Hughes etc.

TS... three things...
1. there is an important distinction which should be made between UK jocks and jocks in the UK. As I have said a number of times, a lot of the top jocks in the UK are not British.
2. I have not watched UK racing for over a decade now so things may have changed but I do not remember ever thinking that some of the jocks in the UK are as poor as some I see in SA. If you consider my comment too general then fair enough but I will choose to disagree. You then say "very little between the top jock's the world over" which is a completely different issue and pretty much what I was also inferring was likely, but we should not mix-up the "on average" jocks with the "top" jocks.
3. I am no expert but I do not consider some of those SA jocks being mentioned here as world class. Not going to mention names as I don't see the point and when there is no need to be negative about an individual then let's not
Again there are distinctions to be made between world class, good, poor etc and Sheza's question was simply which SA jocks would hold their own in the UK. All those mentioned might be able to do so but they most certainly would not (ALL! added as an edit for clarification!
) be ranked alongside Richard Hughes for example... imo
And a question if I may, I always considered the jocks in Hong Kong to be good without being top rank. Indeed, if memory serves me right, I thought a lot of the jocks who had been riding in the UK who went to HK did so simply to get more regular rides and consequently a much improved income. Is that not correct? And would you say the top jocks in HK were as good as those in the UK or AM, PS etc?
