Not uncommon to see the UK jockeys riding 7 days a week and sometimes 2 meets per day....

imo a marcus does not come close to the top 10 jocks riding in the uk.r moore,r hughes,s de souza,m barzelona, joe fanning and even former jump jock g lee will all ride marcus to sleep day in and day out if he were to compete with them.striker might hv a chance of being competitive, but the tricks he pulls here wont work with those boys in the uk.those uk jocks are just too good and they are diff class.you must just watch enough top uk racing and you will see the difference in class.everyone will disagree, but iv watched these uk jocks and i can clearly see the difference in class.

Englander, the question was: If Marcus, our champ jock, is not good enough to race with the best in the world..then which 1 or 1s of our jockeys are? I dont think the question pertains specifically to the UK.....
For me currently: Doug Whyte, Marcus, B Fayd, Dalpech, Glynn S, Fradd, Lloyd & Striker have all won internationally (obviously there are others) but to my mind they would hold their own on any stage.

lol TS... started as that but I'm pretty sure it then became more directed at the UK but you are probably right, doesn't really matter where, more of a "who" question.
I'm not sure I came over the right way before, I am not disagreeing with you, more trying to demonstrate distinctions that should be made when discussing the subject.
Did you have an answer for HK? Genuinely interested.

Should add to the International Jockey Challenge...
A pure SA vs UK challenge...
Should have like 3 legs in SA and 3 legs in UK (flat races obvi)...
6 SA jocks 6 GB jocks...
Think it would make for quite some interesting viewing in my opinion...
BUT then again, we have the Dubai World Cup where all nations compete... think that should be a good enough showcase to prove ones worth / merit...
I think that Marcus, Strydom, Delpech will hold their own against the best of the best...
I have noticed that the UK jocks ride style is totally different to the SA jocks... and they have thrown all but the bath at their mounts...

A.Marcus..rides the best horses..he has first choice on any horse in a field...no trainer will take A.M off a horse if he phones for a ride...and he certainly does his homework...he takes nothing for granted...he will go throw a leg up and make a special effort to work a horse even if it means him waking up 1/2 hour earlier than normal...so naturally u will ride more winners than anyone if u are riding ,usually the best rated or performed horse in a race..to add to this..other jockeys make it very easy for marcus in race riding, just go see how many of his peers go to sleep when marcus is in front...they almost allow him to set his own fractions up front and allow him to quicken and then they wake up..and with his upper body strength...they will battle..to me he is the most professional jockey in sa....but about being the best in the world...i wonder....if he will be granted the same lattitude in the uk as he is allowed in sa..the Jay Peg ride was masterful..but over a period of time i think he will not stand out head and shoulders above the uk boys as he is allowed to stand in sa...be that as it may...from now to august bookies can brace themselves for a hiding regarding marcus's rides as he will boot home winner after winner...and pierre ....30 is not enough .

Englander, to answer your question re HK, (and I am no expert), but the same would apply for me, not in general but the top jocks would hold their own. Even the top horses as Vengence of Rain & Dalpech showed in Dubai. Doug has fought off many challengers incl. Brett Prebble last season, each of them could hold their own anywhere. SA Jocks who have ridden in HK, Basil Marcus, Barty Leisher, Jeff Lloyd, Ant Dalpech & more, so my opinion is that you may not have the best overall or the depth but the top are top.
