Cloned Police Vehicle Siezed
12 years 4 months ago
The picture shows a VW GTI recovered yesterday in Ladysmith by SAPS members. The vehicle was a civilian GTI that had been hijacked in Gauteng and had subsequently been kitted out as a police vehicle.
Police are on the hunt for a man who has been hiring out a range of police paraphernalia, including guns, bulletproof vests, blue lights and sirens, to a dangerous crime syndicate operating in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng.
Police arrested two members of a Gauteng-based gang in Durban, while the fake police car was recovered after a gunfight involving the Ladysmith Tactical Response Team when other gang members carried out two robberies in Ladysmith. The six men in the car escaped by running into bush next to the N3.

Until the Death Penalty is reinstated we will remain citizens of a war zone and targets for the ruthless criminals who have carte blanche

worse thing is even if the criminals get convicted they get released after 3-4 weeks just because of soo called overcrowding in jail cells makes you wonder about the future of our country

@Titch:
'......and had subsequently been kitted out as a police vehicle.'
To fit out a vehicle with the SAPS logo is a piece of cake with the latest wide format printing equipment and car vinyls.
Obvious there are corrupt printers working with the syndicates. n the other hand, the equipment costs about R150 000 which these syndicates can easily purchase and operate........ frightening the possible consequences!
Imagine a vehicle branded / kitted out with your company's logo, etc turns up at your house while you at work or out? Or, one fitted out with the alarm company or cash-collecting company with whom you contracted?
I had a request for a popular baked beans sticker labels (A Chinese pair has been arrested for importing and re-labelling fake groceries in MidRand), and another to alter the numbers on a temporary cardboard licence!
I also had someone who wanted a printout of an origal-looking letter from the NPA/SARS to state that you, Mr XYZ, have a refund of Rx-million, complete with insignia!
These crooks are getting sharper and sharper, or, our policing system is questionable?

We have the uneviable statistic in this country of 50 murders a day and hijackings cash in transit armed robbery etc are not even considered news worthy by our national papers and get a mention as a filler on pages 5 or 6, yet in countries where they adopt a zero tolerance stance against crime the law abiding citizens live in peace and prosper, there is no deterrent for criminals in this country and until the "time fits the crime" we will continue to be the victims....

the statistics don't read well at all and they are rather horrible and disturbing to put it lightly. I don't know how rational you all think criminals commiting crime are. The commit the crime because they almost certainly believe that they will not get caught, threats of death may not deter criminals at all, especially ones who commit such heinous crimes.
From a sociological perspective the death penalty will be most harshly felt by the poor, wealthy affluent individuals will have good representation and sidestep prosecution. Will just be another mechanism which will serve as a control among the poor and marginilised racial groups. How archaic, this is the same practice nobleman used to control the masses with demonstrations of disembowelment and mutilation. These crimes and stats things are terrible and no sane person would wish it on anyone or condone it on any level.
On a lighter note. All prisoners sent to jail are put on treadmills which are connected to the power grid, we use the kinetic energy they generate to power the country. Hereby we solve the power crisis.
Better train hard before they commit a crime. Judging by how people generally hate exercise, it could be the solution.
My views are my own, hopefully no clanners, greeks, romans or horses were harmed by this post.

"not even considered news worthy by our national papers and get a mention as a filler on pages 5 or 6"
Titch i think you will find that the newspapers WOULD love to run these stories BUT are not "encouraged" to do so by goverment.
There used to be a website (cant remeber the name) that logged crimes in SA. It was shut down and all it did was report FACT

Didn't government pass a law not too long ago that makes it illegal to publish any crime statistics?
I can't remember exactly what it said but I thought that was the bottom line.......
