In his first Met Pocket Power was a 4yo and carried 53Kg, while Emperor Napoleon (only 3yo in the race) 52Kg.
The bottom weight of a 4yo now is 58Kg, and King Of Pain would carry 53Kg if we ran today.
In his second Met, PP carried 58Kg, but the lowest weight in the race was 55.5, and the same in the next, again only a 2.5kg spread over the whole field.
So Hibs should be deadly serious, PP had a blessed path and the rules changed in his favour every time so his feat may well be hard to emulate. I don't think 3yos have ever had it this good. So much so, that you have to wonder if Jackson could have won the Met last year with a 6Kg pull compared to the 57 in the July.
Even now, Jackson and Variety Club will both carry 60Kg, a weight PP never saw to victory.

Yes (I just rephrased from the official conditions).
Met has evolved into Conditions race, where the conditions resemble WFA + none cumulative penalty
The Met will end up being the proper championship race in SA because of the races you really want to win, there is only a 2kg concession to inferior horses. The July results hold up because the 3yo are still untapped by the handicapper. The Summer Cup will be a source of false champs, no disrespect intended.
The difference between the Met and the July will be that in the Met a good 3yo can win, and in the July a good 3yo will win.

Much appreciated
Notably there were no 3yo in the Summer Cup
I take it that by the time the July arrives a good 3yo will have matured enough whilst in the Met a young 3 old still probably
hasnt matured enough
Perhaps Mike De Kock will try and win the Met with Rumya given the weight advantages

Think the nominations for the met is done and dusted
Don't think dekock would do that with Rumya
And don't think he will nominate a 3yr old for the Queens Plate Either
I think Rumya's mission will be the July

You can add in Badgers Coast winning the met as a 3yo trained by you know who Mike de Kock. Willie Figueroa was the jockey replacing Mawing.
