why clairwood and not scotsville on standby?no need to answer its very clear for true racing people to see the difference in tracks...on the positive side word has it that 3 honourable and genuine racing people who have zero huidden agendas and ulterior motives have put their names forward for the upcoming elections for the gold circle board...there might be a glimmer of hope if they get voted on ...pg

Pirates, i would personally vote for you, contrary to some, i believe you could offer much value to racing in KZN.

Pirates they would have raced at Scottsville if it had been the other way around and Scottsville had just had its Spring treatment and not scheduled to have 4/5 meetings in the previous 2 weeks or so. I havent seen the final nominations to be voted on.

Clairwood Racecourse has been put on standby to host the Avis Coach Charter Jockeys’ International scheduled for Sunday, November 18 as Gold Circle are concerned that Greyville Racecourse will not be ready in time to host the meeting.
Although the Greyville track is in beautiful condition, unfortunately the grass above the new subway has not settled due to the excessive amount of recent rain.
Rainfall figures since the beginning of September have vastly exceeded averages in KZN, so the weather might have the final say, although the Greyville track team are doing all they can to have the turf above the new subway ready for the meeting.
In the meantime Clairwood’s recent spring treatment has gone very well and in its case the rain actually came at the right time.
All it now needs is a couple of days of sunshine, so track manager Krish Sewpersad is confident it will be ready by November 18.
The Jockey’s International is two-legged, with the first leg being on November 16 at Turffontein.
The second leg will be the first time the event has come to Durban and racegoers are expected to come to the course in their droves to watch some of the world’s best jockeys in action taking on a South African team packed with talent.

The 2nd Leg of the 2012 Avis Coach Charter International Jockeys’ Challenge on Sunday, 18 November, will take place at Clairwood Racecourse and not Greyville as originally scheduled.
While the turf over the recently constructed subway at the 300m marker at Greyville has rooted well, and this has been independently confirmed by Turf Specialists, the fact is that, in the absence of a much needed dry, warm and sunny spell, the affected area is not yet 100% ready to ensure safe racing.
Shelton drainage is presently being installed and this will further assist in ensuring full recovery in line with Gold Circle's racing safety specifications.
The excessive rainfall continues to play havoc with KZN fixtures and today's Scottsville meeting has had to be abandoned. Gold Circle has announced an added fixture for Saturday, 17 November on the inside track at Scottsville, the programme for which will be released during the course of the morning. Entries for this added meeting close at 11:00 on Thursday 8 November and declarations on Friday 9 November at 13:00.
"We are hopeful that racing will return to Greyville on Friday night 23 November, but to be absolutely frank, that will depend on improved weather conditions," said Racing Director Graeme Hawkins.
"We will make whatever contingency plans are necessary and add fixtures where we can in order to play "catch-up". The unusually high rainfall over the past three months has been a source of great frustration to all involved with racing in the province and we have no choice but to adapt as best we can," he concluded.
