The G maybe they were coerced onto standing in the 1st place? Possibly once everything that the board wants to do was explained to them they decided to stand down for the good of Natal racing. I seem to remember that at the last election someone said that we must give whoever the newly elected board was, a chance to do what they thought best. We elected them on so let them do their work. Dont elect them on and then try and run it yourself. Dont buy a dog and then go and stand at your gate and bark yourself! You bought it for a reason so let it get on and do the job.

They doing fine in most peoples books. The whole of the old guard as they are called are behind them and that has some very influencial,horse racing loving people included in them. In fact I think all of them fall under that banner. To most of the people/owners I chat to, it is the people on the outside trying to get in that possibly have the hidden agendas.

Ok Pirates/The G, why do you think that they withdrew their nominations? Because they were scared they might get on as a director? Do me a favour. They are all well liked, strong willed people and not scared of confrontation so that is not the reason. Why do you think they decided not to stand? I for one would love to know.

@Craig
Do you know if these safety specs include getting rid of ALL the concrete uprights on the racetracks?
Including the precast wall & barb wire over the road at Greyville
What are the chances of finally joining the rest of the world with plastic railings on the inside without sprinklers attached?
With the new grass being laid will the ground staff fill the divots with sand or soil?
I lived in the desert for 8 yrs and never saw grass grow through sand
This is what makes underfoot conditions unsafe when wet....

i disagree with mr taylor on many things BUT i still cant believe that there are still concrete uprights on racecourses in SA.
You would have thought that the loss of life of a dear friend Craig Magua would have been suffiecient for the authorities to do something about it, now nearly 25 years later we still waiting.
let me say that again nearly 25 years, a quarter of a century....
shocking BUT at least maiden races are up to R100k

Chris I will ask them today and let you know. I would think the clever/right thing to do would be to change when they put in the new all weather track. I am 99% sure that the underfoot conditions are worse if soil is used. That becomes very soft and sloshy if not bound by the grass and its roots. Will confirm that too but have seen what it is like when tried years ago. The grass will grow up through. the sand as it has a soil base to grow from.

has anybody at gc looked into practical solutions to solve problems that crop up to affect racemeetings.bolted steel stuctured covers that could maybe even hold lights and fans,these could be used to protect sections under repair and even the pull up area at greyville.we have brilliant engineers in our country who could come up some ideas
