Durban July quartet strategy

How do the shrewdies structure there quartets on the main race for interest ? Is it the norm to double float with say 10 horses costing R 1080 and then taking a percentage of that . Or do you take a chance on a fixed win position by plenty , and maybe also go for 3 different winning fixed positions by plenty thus hedging your bet . The reason for asking is that off memory the quartet invariable pays in excess of R20000 and Im just interested how the smart boys bait up for this healthy payout every year .

Heinrich ..you must be crazy! Floating 2 with the field will cost over R19000 .. Judging by by the replies not to many pro quartet takers barring banker jackson with the field cost R 5000 ..definately not worth the bet

Quartet 1:
1.Jackson to win
2.Your next 5 best for second
3.Those 5 plus all De Kock and Tarry horses for third
4. Field at the back

Quartet 2:
Reverse 1 and 2 above....

Thanks Mac, not a bad choice .My silent pro punting friend has advice for us all so read carefully .
He suggests . Take Jackson and one other of your choice .for 1 st place by 6 horses, by 6 horses by field for say 50 percent .
Then hedge by taking 6 horses, by Jackson and your other choice , by 6 by field . This way you have a chance to double up on your quartet if caught and its not expensive .. You got to take a small position and swallow here as oposing to going huge in his opinion . Maybe valuable advice to the clanners
.
