He was a grey. The story goes that he was on some farm in Phillipi and somebody had tied him up to a bath in the field, When he ran he did so with his head at an angle. As you mentioned a total dilly horse.

Sea Cottage. You wonder why... I would love to know how the real greats would have performed on the day. Which course also made a difference, The fastest course to me would be the Scottsville 1000m, but is that what the question is? I love each course in KZN for the difference that they provide. Scottsville for the undulating course,Greyville, for the uphill to the 600 metre mark (I loved Tickey Carr for the races that he stole there), and Clairwood for the long run in...

Knife Edge-trained by brain wiid ,ran 17 races 8 wins and 8 places...my dad bought the horse after he was suspended for his behaviour in the gates and the horse lost his 1 eye.we went bush-racing in Limpopo province with him and i was the lucky one who worked him everyday and as a 15 year old also was his jockey(weighing 64kg then) .....i will never forget the feeling when i took him for speed-work....the way he felt when we went from a canter to full pace.....and the way he felt in the races!!!!!!!!!
Harrys charm-my first day ever at a course she won her maiden first time out that day with Handbrake Rhys van Wyk on board,Jeff lloyd was annoyed that he picked the wrong one of the azzie coupling and run 2nd (how many of you can remember so much detail after so many years ,this was the first race i ever seen live at a real racecourse)
National currency- cant forget how proud i was when he went stride for stride with the superstar silent witness and not being 100% in hong kong
jj the jetplane-what a win for south africa in hong kong and dubai
national emblem-almost won the july, won the classic 1800 and administrators 2000 and after his first season at stud they put him against taban and cordachelli on a 1200 at greyville and National emblem ran them(the 2 top 2 sprinters that time) of their feed. Charles laird said after the race that he is actually a sprinter but such a good horse that he also raced him over longer
Val de ra and tommy hotsur and chillibang will make a great 800m match-race
would have loved to see senor santa ,golden loom , jet master ,jj and national emblem over 1200m match-race

No two guesses as to whom my favorite sprinter of all time is. He is still a grand old man at the age of 20 years old and doing great in the care of Sugababe!!!!
LOVE that horse!
Apart from our filly, Misty Dancing (who is the grand dam of Dancewiththedevil) my favorite sprinting filly was a KZN filly called Historic Lady. I think she was trained by Naidoo (Cyril) I think?
She was very quick and a good looker too!
Goofy has to get a mention as he was very tough and his owners were super enthusiastic!

Has sugababe got Tommy now? thought he was with Ruby Clip?
got sent this on twitter
@SAFBETTINGCLAN Sunera (GB) was the best sprinter I've ever seen. I saw her win a B Div in heavy going on debut and an A div weeks later. The only time she got beat, was by Lord Randolph and he was backed like the result was known. She beat him hands down after that. I've never seen a filly that could run like she could. Phemonenal speed and a kick 2 furlongs out. She died in training from colic, trained by the maestro Terrence Millard. The closest to her would be Val De Ra.

Golden Loom - most special horse that I have ever had the privelege to know.
JJ the Jetplane - Once Striker worked him out, they were destined to greatness.
Val de Ra - incredible guts and determination.
Now look at all 3 of the above's sires - Golden Thatch, Jet Master and Var.
And I will take any Var that I can get !!! They are simple, easy horses to work with. And they give you their best.

I have always wondered about the following:
In last years Grade 1 Computaform Sprint, Val de Ra won in 56.65 seconds over the 1000m at Turffontein
Franny won the juvenile Ruffian Stakes in 56.84
& Winking Jack won a Pinnacle on tuesday night in 56.59
So a 2yr old, a then 4yr old filly and a 7 yr old gelding all run the the same course / distance in approximately the same times minus a couple of SPLIT seconds here and there all from different draws and carrying different weights.
On form, Val de Ra is obviously the most accomplished but comparing Winking Jacks time on tuesday versus Val's Computaform effort, Winking Jack is capable of beating Val and there is no reason why Franny couldnt win this years Computaform Sprint if 2yr olds were / are allowed to compete.
It seems that based on the times indicated above, not much seperates a 2yr old filly and a multiple grade one winning race mare like Val.
Apart from the different weights which they have to carry and their respective ages, as far as im concearned a sprinter can carry a big or slight weight but can't give away a start like J J did the other night.
