So how come they are dodging a potential meeting with Ebony Flyer in the Queens Plate?

Mike de Kock has fervently denied that Igugu and Ebony Flyer could meet in the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate at Kenilworth in January.

In a discussion on the programme “Inside Racing’’ on Tellytrack on Monday night, it was mentioned that Igugu would be going for the Queen’s Plate followed by the J&B Met. “I don’t know where the information came from but whoever is spreading it, is ill-informed,’’ said De Kock. “The plan is to race her in the TBA Paddock Stakes over 1800m on the same day as the Queen’s Plate – and then the Met.’’

The Queen’s Plate and Paddock Stakes are both Grade 1 races and carry stakes of R1 million each.

Gibralter is no slouch and if mdk gives her a bit of a break before the queens plate she will give her best as she likes to race fresh .

Makes sense to race them separately for bigger stakes gains !

i dont think MDK has anything to prove with igugu........we all know how good she is not so.....(tu)

Is the Paddock Stakes not further than the Queen's Plate? I feel the mile would be Igugu's minimum trip now.

Don`t you guys remember how they challenged Ebony Flyer earlier in the year? then they announce that they are going to be around on the same day and dodge her.Then what will happen is the IGUGU fans will say why is EF not running in the Met etc blah blah

Hibs maybe we shouldn't get into this, remember the bloggers on here are biassed towards Igugu and Ebony Flyer is second rate. Wouldn't be much of a match anyway.

yes i do hibs.... remember igugu travelled to EF's backyard... did EF wanna travel to jhb?... i think its pointless to debate this really.... both are supurb racehorses in their own right......(tu)

lets be honest here... Both Igugu and Ebony flyer are top,top,top individuals..
Lets put it this way..if they both were to race in any race againn together,ill be onlt satisfied if its a dead heat.lol

Mother Russia traveled from Gauteng to The Cape and it didn't bother her.

The reason Igugu traveled to The Cape is that is where the Guineas is contested.

The reason Ebony Flyer did not travel to Gauteng is that she is a Miler and she had already won the only Grade 1 Guineas on offer for fillies in SA.

Igugu had the advantage of traveling from altitude to sea level.

Ebony Flyer did not.

Ebony Flyer is a brilliant Miler.

Igugu is a brilliant middle distance runner.

The answer is that at a Mile, Ebony Flyer dominates and that over a middle distance Igugu dominates.

That is the major reason , in my opinion, why horses from the coast battle to compete on the Highveld. They need to be stabled there for at least 2 to 3 weeks before racing (even that might be to short a period).

The opposite is also is true. Horses from the Highveld run better at the coast.
It's the air. Just like your car which performs better at the coast than the highveld.
