What you think is the strongest race in the world?

Methinks the epsom derby or the arc. What you guys say.

I think it lies between the Arc and the Breeders Cup Classic.

When asking the question there are so many factors to consider, the Derby for example is a conditions race, no geldings for example and only 3 year olds. We have been blessed the last 2 years with Sea The Stars and Workforce "going on" from the derby but prior to that there have been some pretty weak winners.

For me the Arc is the one though, its at the right timne of year, horses compete from all over the world AND the form stands up most years, horses run in the Arc and then go on to do more elsewhere.

The Arc,cant remember the last time the race has not been won by a champion...

The Arc is my first choice as well, but the Melbourne Cup has to be one tough mudder as well....Not only for quality of horse flesh but the sheer brutal distance of going that speed for 2 miles in a huge field in ground that is normally at least soft to muddy!

Have to agree though with Arc!

Perhaps the Kentucky Derby deserves a mention for 3 year olds.....Very tough to win as the Yanks are super competitive and also they don't breed them to go a 1 1/4 mile two turn race!

you live in the states why not help kittycatoo out and post the 1200m time for the derby and a few other big races. Then kittycatoo would know exactly how fast Val De Ra really is....

However for me....................Ribot, Sea Bird, Vaguely Noble, Mill Reef, Alleged, Dancing Brave, Zarkava/Sea the Stars (how is the baby)

Nijinsky (was it Lester or was it the triple crown that was a bridge too far)

I'll have to be with the Arc as well. It is a race for champions, coming towards the end of what for many has been a long season and quite often run in testing conditions. I know that as an owner this is the one race in the world that I would cherish winning above all others, and not just because the French put on one hell of a show. It takes a champion in most years to win an Arc, and because geldings are barred the winner frequently goes on to impact strongly on the breed. This can be just as true of the fillies who have won it - remember Urban Sea??
