INSIDE RACING - what happened to ROBIN BRUSS ?

Inside racing has just come on now, BEFORE todays FLAMINGO replays. Robin Bruss is not on the show, & I think Grant Knowles said this is the last show for a while.

I heard LAST WEEK that ROBIN BRUSS had been axed from the show....( rumour only )................ where there's smoke there's fire......... AND NO ROBIN BRUSS. Makes you think.

I don't think S.A. has a more knowledgable BREEDER EXPERT than ROBIN BRUSS. Love him or hate him he's tops in this field, & a great loss to our T.V. viewers should this be true.

Sadly Inside Racing has become sort of a infomercial for the TBA since early this year and 80% of the program has been devoted to marketing the TBA's flagship sales (and this is the reason for last night's show being the last in a while) - not that this is a bad thing - just wondering if they could not have stuck with the format from years gone by; i.e. having Breeding Uncovered to market the sales/breeders and then keep Inside Racing to deal with more 'factual' matters. And then last night they had to have an (extremely boring imo) insert on Equifeeds (who probably demanded some coverage in return for being one of the 'headline sponsors')

Regarding Mr Bruss, I think they said last week that he was 'off sick' (not sure about this week) and Gareth is sort of his stand-in / side-kick.

Good morning, yes Robin was sick and wish him a speedy recovery.

The inserts from Legends by the Lithgows I will miss, unless they have other plans?

Just to clarify a few matters. Yes. last night's "Inside Racing" was the last for what might be quite a while. The programme has been sponsored by the TBA and various commercial sponsors for the past few weeks, as a marketing tool for the National Sales. The same happened prior to the Cape Premier Sale.

Right now, Clyde Basel and his team are looking for a sponsor/s for the show but until such time as a replacement for Bidvest can be found there will not be funding for the return of "Inside Racing". It's rather a pity, given that it's one of the very few magazine programmes put out by the racing industry, whose profile could do with a mighty kick up the backside.

As regards Robin Bruss' role, he has not been axed; what is this obsession with rumour mongering about "axing"? It takes quite a serious misdemeanour or slip-up for anyone to get axed from any position (especially in this country), and Robin is the acknowledged master when it comes to breeding matters. But he also happens to be a very busy man, who has put aside many of his business interests to focus on making the two major sales a success. Just stack up the figures to see what a success he has had (for which he has paid a penalty!) Robin was overseas when the last show was pre-recorded last night and Gareth Pepper stood in for him. Gareth has been serving as Executive Producer of the show, under Robin's guidance. Input has largely been determined by Robin.

Sorry you were bored by the Equifeeds infomercial, Frodo, but you try turning oats, mealies and lucerne into riveting viewing! Especially when you have just two days in which to cover two factories in different parts of the country. The fact is, Equifeeds is a damned good product, made by very good people, and they have to be thanked for making the rest of the inserts, over the past few weeks, informative and entertaining.

Thank you James as long as you had your "oats" this morning..................;)

You do a great job and Legends of the Turf is classic and deserves a sponsor.

I understand the logic (and the marketing forces) at work in producing the program and the inserts and I was not having a dig at the quality of the Equifeeds insert; I also do not doubt that it may be a 'damned good product' (I wouldn't know) but I stick to my opinion that it was boring and I bet that if you do an survey on the popularity of the insert you will find that most of us nodded off!

May I also add that I have a great deal of respect for the work that you and Aiden do in trying to raise the interest in the horse racing and breeding 'game' and I think the 'Legends' series is a fantastic concept - well done (tu)

Sorry Neighmaster,I have to disagree on one issue:

"It takes quite a serious misdemeanour or slip up for anyone to get axed"...........not in the racing industry.......a number of people have been axed, dumped, replaced, substituted etc in this industry,in recent times, with little or no explanation.

(BTW sorry but I found the Equifeed insert VERY boring.............not appropriate for a magazine programme IMO........... Topgear would not include a 20 min.insert ,on aspiration, which would appeal only to mechanics)
