Rumour has it that anyday now we will hear some of Markus Joostes plans! End of the month sees a lot of horses go to a horses in training sale. charles will be getting a fraction of the horses compared to the past. Anton will be employed by Jooste to ride is horses. A certain high profile person in the racing game is his "racing advisor"

Whether this is a rumour or not I am surprised it has been so long coming.
A simple thumb suck will suggest that the last few years ( whether they were particularly successful or not ) must have resulted in nett outflows akin to the GDP of a small African state for Mr Jooste. Forget about his training bills - the setup costs of his breeding establishment must have been staggering.
Wealthy people do not get wealthy by sitting on their hands and watching negative cash flows for very long. Nor do they tolerate platitudes from their accountants citing 'it's deductible'. They like to see income outstripping outflows - preferably by an obscene margin. It's called PROFIT - a word I can confidently speculate appears nowhere in the lexicon of most long time or big time owner/breeders.
Throw in the credit crunch and recession, season with the 'game playing' that masquerades as the National Yearling Sale and bigger players will quickly jab the 'Cull' button.
It's a game that tames tigers. And until we all accept that success in racing is almost always a by product of luck rather than science optimistic players will continue to commit large sums to the wrong animals at the wrong times.

Like to know whether the move to Australia is still in the pipe line for Laird.Any further news on this.
Must also say C Laird has been the most consistent trainer ( results wise ) for the Joostes in recent times, albeit wuith a better stock.
Its a pity that the Gauteng form for all horses has not been holding up in KZN.
Just illustrates the downward spiral of the racing indsutry in Gauteng over the last few years

suppose the best way to ruin a horses future is to over cook them to win first time..... a simple example is the horse western front, was claimed 5 times to beat perana first time out at clairwood, duly obliges and runs unplaced in its next 2 starts! None of the horses train on.

last year before the july charles laird confidently says that the 2009 race is not for 3 year olds...he does not enter dan de lago who ran a close second to bcl in the daily news...he puts the stable jockey on our giant who is not garanteed to stay...the 3 year olds finish 1, 2 and 3 in the july...our giant wins a group 1 sprint by miles in his next start before going to dubai to compete in sprints...does this guy know what his doing...
maybe he should take some advice from mike de kock who week last said that you cant become to clever in this game...
