Media Release - Gold Reef Resorts Medallion

Summerveld-based trainer Alistair Gordon has one of the main fancies for the Grade 1 Gold Reef Resorts Medallion for two-year-old colts and geldings to be run over 1200m at Scottsville Racecourse on Saturday, 29 May 2010.
Gordon said his unbeaten colt Tuscan Sky will take on what, "Mike de Kock reckons it’s the strongest Medallion field he's seen. Tuscan Sky is fit and well. It will be his first try at further than 1000m. He is by Al Mufti but his dam was a six-time winner who never won beyond 1000m. It will be tough but at least we have a ticket."
There was confidence exuding from the De Kock yard about Kavanagh, a Tiger Ridge colt who won the Grade 2 Nursery on debut.
"He's very good," said De Kock.
De Kock said of another of his runner's, Jet Legend, who is a full-brother to J J The Jet Plane, "He's a different horse to J J and is more of a miler type. Sky Marshal also wants a mile. But the race will give us a nice line on how good they are."
Drier's Link Man, a facile winner of his last two starts albeit in weak fields, was striding out nicely under Sean Veale in his easy sand workout.
"The race will tell how good he is," said Drier.
Assistant Stuart Ferrie said that despite Link Man being by Torreador, he had no doubt he would see out the tough 1200m.
Kumaran Naidoo has five runners in the Medallion, Go Go Loochee (who defeated Link Man when the latter made his debut), Furious Dancer, Extreme West, Starfire and Manjur, and said they were all very well.
Anton Marcus revealed that his mount in the Medallion, the Charles Laird-trained Sports Coach, was at Clairwood but he hadn't worked him.
He commented after winning easily on The Assayer last Wednesday that Sports Coach was the better of the two at this stage.
The Gordon-trained horse, Cheet Em All not in the field, finished a 6,5 lengths third to The Assayer and Gordon was confident that Tuscan Sky would beat Cheet Em All by a lot further.
