This is indeed sad news - I am really sorry that this poor horse suffered som much. Laminitis is a terrible affliction - not horses get it from bad management or over feeding, if any of you remember the story of Barbaro, The Kentucky Derby winner who got it as well. No amount of money or medical knowledge could save him. (Google it!!!)

Now Mr Antelme is a very nice person - I know him personally. He does train on a shoe string budget - but he had cleints who were happy with his methods. And yes, he did train Gondolier to win the July. Billy Harvey was very instrumental in that win, as was the pioneer horse physiotherapist who treated Gondolier. I cannot believe that Mr Antelme would have deliberately hurt a horse, or caused it pain. As Sugahorse says, it can be low grade and sometimes not very obvious if it is bilateral. I am not defending him - BUT i have witnessed trainers and jockeys being just as cruel to horses and nothing has been done. One trainer has recently been warned off for doping charges - on a previous case (where he deliberately starved a horse to death, to "teach a {non-paying} owner a lesson"), he got a SIX MONTH SUSPENSION. What a joke...

I KNOW THE ANTELMES PERSONALLY.
HE USES ALTERNATE MEDICATION TO TREAT HIS HORSES,NOT STERIODS OR OTHER QUICK FIXES LIKE THE MAJORITY OF THE TRAINERS.
HE WOULD NEVER ALLOW THIS HORSE TO SUFFER IN PAIN,IF HE DIDNOT HAVE A PLAN
THIS IS JUST THE JOCKEY CLUBS PERFECT EXCUSE TO GET RID OF HIM,SOMETHING THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DO IN THE LAST 5 YEARS
THEY SAY HE IS JUST TAKING UP SPACE AT SUMMERVELD.
HE IS A KIND AND COMPASIONATE MAN.
HORSES ARE HIS LIFE.
HE DOES NOT HAVE STOCK,BUT TRAINS FOR PEOPLE WHO LOVE THEIR HORSES AND RACING
IF THIS WAS MIKE DE KOCK OR BASS,WE WOULD PROBABLY MAKE SOME REASONING WHY THIS HORSE WAS LEFT TO SUFFER.
GIVE THE MAN A CHANCE,THEY DID NOT FIND A RENOWN VET INJECTING PERFORMANCE ENHANCING DRUGS OR PAIN KILLERS TO HIS HORSES.

If he was using alternate medicine which has a proven effect on laminites and showed this to the club surely he still wouldn't have been given 5 years !? Well i hope not anyway.
