This is to all: please add your experience with trainer comments.
that means, how realistic their comments are usually?

i begin with some, just my experience, correct me!

more or less reliable comments:

Duncan Howell, W. Miller

diplomatic comments, which you have to read in the right way:

M. Bass, M. de Kock (underrates his horses?, mabe because the high quality of the above averages there), C. Laird, G. Smith, P. Miller

not reliable:

A. Greef, Steenkamp,

I am a firm believer of NO COMMENTS is the best policy...and had to learn that the hard way, many times over.

Just recently I had an owner phoning me about the chances of his horse in a race that was 2nd favorite and was tipped by his Trainer to win. This trainer had 4 horses in the race and of his 4 horses the least liked in the betting won it followed by the other 2 NOT tipped to the Owner 2nd and 3rd.

The owner's horse ran unplaced. As Hibs says "bad info is remembered" BUT is firmly belive that some trainers mught intentionally "leak" out this "wrong" information just so that they can capitalise on it by making money on the ones they know.

So guys what I learned from it is analysis is WAY better than any comments given by a Trainer,

Regards,

Loopy

Thanks for the comments Loopy, and I must fully agree with you.

I do encourage the dissemination of information but in this country that will never happen "freely and fairly".

i guess we have to accept that fact and study form!

I love listening to SOME trainers with regard to what they think of their runners...a stand out is Justin Snaith who is always forthcoming and generally will put you in the picture about what he thinks of his runners. Joey Ramsden's another one who will give a frank opinion and that is always commendable.
The important thing to remember though is that although this is cliched "There is no good thing in racing" - although a stand out performer will be more likely to win than not when it is competing against lesser quality horses.
Horses though are not machines and luck in running is important very often. The draw and especially the going and the pace (or lack of it) in a race all determines whether a horse wins a race or not.
Study the form and remember it is ultimately your decsion as to whether you back a horse or not...sometimes a punter "speaks from the pocket" and because of that, comes across as being very bitter...
Betting on horses is gambling pure and simple..though I play in moderation, I love it but I know the risks...

The problem for me is that you will NEVER hear a trainer tell you that a 66/1 shot "will win" or has a "decent each way chance"....NEVER.

Can't say I really blame them, even if the horse shortens down to 6/1 and shits in!

Still Perpetual you are spot on. It is our money and we decide what to do with it, win, lose or draw!

Good debate guys but i think i may be on magics side on this one . I dont want the info if its not genuine if the trainer / jock or owner are going to give advice let them be honest and not just comment because they feel obliged to .Bad info is no use to anyone and often its human nature to believe that its intentional. We are quick to point out when its bad and we celebrate win its good. Even im not sure anymore'

Look at the trainers' eyes while he is talking, TV or wherever. Like most of us, while we think, our eyes shift to either the top corner right or the top corner left. If they go left then he is probably thinking like fact based and so you can just take for granted what he is saying. If they go right, then he's lies like an old carpet, and if you're brave enough do the exact opposite...

If u fancy a horse your max bet might be a grand, if a trainer or jock says it's. Past the post u may have 5 grand. Let's call it a fatal attraction? BEWARE!
