The 100m mark at Scottsville Racecourse will become a colourful spectacle in the programme lineup of events on Saturday, 29 May 2010, when mascots from both schools, the corporate; NPO and sporting sectors - converge in preparation to go head to head in a 100m dash for the finish line at this year’s Golden Horse Casino Sprint Raceday.

All in attempt to raise funds for charity - there are already nine Mascots who have committed participation in the Charity Mascot 100m race at the event. “Competition is starting to hot up.” said Ms Foxon – Events Manager at the Golden Horse Casino – “As such mascot contenders will need to make a concerted dash on race day if they wish to stand in line to win the amazing sum of R15 000-00 (which is awarded to the charity of the winning mascot of the 100m race) or R5 000-00 (which is awarded to the charity of the mascot who comes in at second place) she added.

At a Charity – Mascot Draw – nine out of the 55 Charitable and Welfare beneficiaries from the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest stable were randomly selected by means of a lucky draw to be represented by a willing mascot in the 100m sprint race.

At this draw, Mr Aroo Naidoo - Executive Director at the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest said: “It is a privilege to be associated with the Golden Horse Sprint Raceday as it provides the Pietermaritzburg and District Community Chest an opportunity to partner with the corporate sector in terms of their corporate social responsibility ideals”.

The Chest are appealing to all of the nine charitable organizations to rally support for the mascots who will be running for them come “Race Day” – “We know how far support can go - so let us get out there on race day in a display of thanks and appreciation to the Mascots who are prepared to put themselves in the starting blocks” – he added.
