Scotsville Wednesday

I know a bit early but, why not? will have a proper look at the card later...
Question should 5 year olds be allowed to run in graduation races?

::oWhy ever should 5 yr olds or even 10 yr olds not run in GPs? Tough card at the nightmare course but maybe East Coast Gold has found his right trip and can follow up.

Il magiclips che ho indossato sa perché lei infastidisce con correre Sudafricano come il suo in un in disordine completo e totale. Tutti sembrano volere un pezzo della torta ma nessuno è disposto a dare. Suo porta porta porta appena.

I didn't get all of that, C and C, but the complete and total disorder was clear enough and all too true. So was the part about everyone wanting but not giving back.

I agree Magic, but perhaps the old "5-year old in a maiden in a big province" should be re looked at? If a horse has not yet won its maiden by the age of 5 in GP, KZN or CTN then it should stand to reason that it should be shipped off to PE, Kimberley ect?
I know everybody was happy when this rule got abolished, but if I look at the sorry state of racing in GP then I now think that rule made perfect sense!
Also the racing programmers should think about having more maiden races instead of having these "low merit rated" meetings at the Vaal. There should be a trade off....one race meeting mae up entirely of maidens and the next made up of lower merit rated handicaps.
Do I make any sense or am I to be fitted for a strait jacket?

I'm happy to let maidens of any age run anywhere but maybe they should be eliminated first. I have no problem with all-maiden cards but they must be extra meetings.

Triple Vortex can draw in punters
JACK MILNER:BEFORE Triple Vortex won a Maiden Plate he was involved in the finishes of three races that have produced eight winners.
Alistair Gordon’s runner began his career by finishing third to August Rush, followed that with a fifth to Havasha and then ran another fifth, that time to Absolute Heretic.
All three winners look well above average so it came as no surprise when on his fourth attempt Triple Vortex joined the ranks of winners. It may have been blinkers that did the trick but his one-length victory over Make My Day, a subsequent winner at Clairwood on Sunday, came with far more authority than the winning distance might suggest.
The three-year-old son of Jet Master lines up in a Graduation Plate over 1600m at Scottsville this afternoon and he could be the runner they all have to beat.
The opposition is not overly strong and Triple Vortex looks the runner most likely to improve. There is a question as to whether he will see out 1600m but on breeding, it should not be a problem. His dam, Lady Margeret Hall, was a classy runner who won up to 1800m.
The distance could also be a factor for Pegasus Legacy as Allyson Wright’s runner has won up to 1300m and failed in his only attempt at 1600m. In his favour is that his only win came at this course and it is always an advantage to know a runner is effective on this undulating track.
East Coast Gold is a two-time winner and was impressive when beating Charles Greig by two lengths last time out. He comes into the race marginally under sufferance but a bigger concern is that he has only placed once in four starts at Scottsville.

Always thought Graduation races were meant to be stepping stones or gauges,to see what next?

They are. If the system works properly older battlers with low ratings will seldom win them (except in KZN, where any farking thing is possible;) ), but I don't see why the older horses should be disbarred from taking their chances. Also bear in mind that low-rated older horses are often more-or-less forced to race in these races because their low MRs keeps getting them eliminated from handicaps.
