If this muck is not a one-off freak season and is a sign of permanent climate change then the entire structure of SA racing's calendar is under threat. I know it will never happen but how I wish PE was turned into the number one Phumelela province. Not just better weather but better for horses all round and no more altitude excuses. Ah, to dream, to dream.

I think they should take 5% from the stakes pot (5% of 300 million = 15,000,000) and put up a 2000m all weather track in each centre.

So a maiden winner in CT would get R34,400 instead of R36,250 or R1,850 less. We already pay the 10% jockey R1080 more than the 7% jock.

The money made in saved meetings would repay itself pretty soon, not to mention an alternative surface would give many horses a new lease on life possibly.

Please stop!!!!!!!!!!! You guys are presenting solutions here....whats wrong with you....nobody wants to hear solutions, we just want to wallow in our own misery!!!!

"P" don't want solutions either, they want revenue.....spending money in ANY form is not what they want, even though JD's Excellent suggestion won't cost them anything and if they do a referendum with the owners/trainers I'm sure they will find out they don't mind either......

but what am I saying......stop making sense people....my head is hurting already!!!!!

:D

J D you make perfectly good sence. In fact the 5% LESS that I earn in stakes p.a. wont affect me 1 iota..... I've earned stuff all this year anyway. But if I had earned 50 G this calendar year & I had to loose 5% ( 2,500 ) so what if we can get better all weather tracks in each centre.

In 1 year or 2 when these all weather tracks could be implemented & running..... then we can revert to our NORMAL stakes.

Because if it rains 2 mm's more than normal then the Vaal sand is also waterlogged!!!
