Piggs Peak Casino makes players out of punters at night racing

Created: 19 February 2010
Piggs Peak Casino Swaziland, home of All Africa Poker launched its national sponsorship of night racing to the media at Turffontein Racecourse’s 9 February meet, where 75 guests got a chance to learn the tricks of the trade.

The night was all about teaching guests how to tell the good from the bad, both when it comes to race horses and poker hands. Guests learnt how to determine the horses’ form in the parade ring giving them the confidence to place their bets at the tote board.

While waiting for the horses to thunder past the winning post, guests turned to the poker tables. In between each of the eight races, All Africa Poker’s tutors swung into action, passing on the basics of popular poker form Texas Hold-em.

Piggs Peak Casino Swaziland, home of All Africa Poker’s poker evenings are Gambling Board approved, with no real money used at the poker tables. Spot prizes and bragging rights to the evening’s title however, kept the competition fierce.

Even those who could not conjure up a perfect hand however, did not leave unrewarded. Each guest went home with a Piggs Peak Casino fluffy pig and a poker set to keep their newfound skills in practice.

The exclusive event proved to be such a hit that several punters not on the guest list were nabbed trying to gatecrash their way in for a round of poker.

“There’s a great vibe at night racing – it’s a completely different experience to day-time events,’’ says Dia Wilson, Group Marketing Manager of Piggs Peak Casino Swaziland.

And with more than 30 night meetings scheduled at Turffontein in Gauteng; and Greyville in Durban; as well as twilight meetings at Kenilworth in Cape Town this year, there’s plenty of opportunity to get in on the race.
