Good Grief - 9 horses???
15 years 5 months ago
I found this interesting story from Japan, about a racemeet from yesterday. Apparently 16 of the horses in the race were unraced...
TOKYO (AP) - A chain-reaction, nine-horse spill during a race in Japan has left one jockey injured.
Japanese rider Hiroyuki Uchida broke his left arm after the leading horse veered in at a sharp angle. He and eight other jockeys were thrown from their horses, one after another.
The spill occurred in the fourth race Monday at Nakayama Racecourse outside Tokyo. Uchida was aboard Lilac Punch in the 16-horse race.
Nobo Project was leading with jockey Kosei Miura aboard when the spill took place on the fourth bend. Nobo Project was disqualified; Miura was suspended for four days.
The Japan Racing Association said it was most horses involved in one accident.

TOKYO, Jan. 11 (AP) - (Kyodo)—Jockey Hiroyuki Uchida, who in 2009 snapped star jockey Yutaka Take's streak of leading the Japan Racing Association circuit in wins at seven consecutive years, fractured a bone in his left arm in a freak accident involving a record nine horses on Monday.
According to the JRA, nine jockeys were thrown from their mounts in the race for 3-year-old newcomers at Nakayama Racecourse, surpassing the previous record of seven.
A total of 16 horses were making their debut in the day's fourth race on the dirt surface in Funabashi, Chiba Prefecture.
Nobo Project, a 3-year-old colt ridden by jockey Kosei Miura, leaned inside at a strange angle while in the lead on the fourth bend, causing the horses trailing him and their jockeys to tumble one after the other.
Nobo Project was disqualified while Miura was hit with a four-day suspension due to start on Saturday.
The trifecta ticket earned 462,840 yen as most of the top favorites were knocked out of the running.

Apart from the horrible accident which I did not like much, the thing about Ruby's article that caught my eye most was the fact that the jock was suspended ONE day after the incident....Finish, klaar.....
None of this "enquiry" 7-days after the running and then a suspension, (or not).
You wonder how long it takes them to decide on an objection? Before the last horses are across the post???

Agreed Hibs, but thats not my point.
The point being that things seem to happen SO much faster anywhere else in the world except for in SA.
How long do they take to decide an objection in SA? How long do they take to decide a suspension??
In Japan it happened almost on the same day...........
