Kenilworth and The BigT - Tuesday

Well the first official, FULL nigh race meeting is upon us and despite some people being sad, others being happy and others just not having any clue, I'm kind of excited!!!

I fancy a double on the day:

Lazer Lady (Kenilworth 4)
Piper Pilot (Turffontein 7)

Those would be my best bets.

I also think Fenerbache will win the 3rd at turffies, but I'm not going to tip it......just coz I can ;)

Happy punting and hope the night racing gods shine on all of us!!!

Evening tommy,im in your camp can`t wait until Tomorrow night hope it`s a big success..

Fancy a few tomorrow night,Piper Pilot looked very ul the last run but not sure if the small field will suit, looks like he needs every yard of 2000m so might need there to be a fast pace..

If Gluwein is fit enough she should win, maybe a double with Polar Moon?

Goodluck with your bets!!

JACK MILNER - NIGHT racing begins at Turffontein on Tuesday and punters who attend the first full night meeting are in for a wonderful treat. Unlike last Thursday’s Vaal card, this meeting is loaded with talented runners and contains the Listed Swallow Stakes over 1160m.

It is great to see that trainers have fully supported the meeting with some of the best runners in the province lining up on the eight-race card.

The meeting also heralds the return of jockey MJ Odendaal, who has been out of action for a couple of years following a nasty fall in Durban.

The Swallow Stakes is for three-year-old fillies and topping the list is Spring Clover. John Vos’ Kahal filly was one of the leading lights as a juvenile last season and won the Fillies Nursery over this track and trip.

She seemed to find the 1400m a touch too far when a 2.75-length fourth to All Afire in the Golden Slipper at Greyville on Durban July day. She has only run twice since, the first in a 1400m Progress Plate at Turffontein in October where she faded late to run 9.75 lengths behind Gluwein, and then was narrowly beaten into third when just unable to hold off Space Captain and Carbon Leader over this course and distance.

That was a superb run as she was taking on the colts and if she has come on since then, Spring Clover could be hard to beat. However, she carries 60kg and it will be interesting to see if she will be able to concede 8kg to Sean Tarry’s talented Silver Candle.

The half sister to National Colour won her August debut and did not come back to the track until New Year’s Eve. She looked to be in need of that run and drifted in the betting, but came with a late charge and only failed by a neck to catch Vareuse.

The form might not mean much now but in her debut, Spring Clover beat Vareuse by 3.25 lengths while Vareuse beat Silver Candle by a neck - both races were run at level weights. The 8kg Silver Candle is getting should be enough to turn around that 3.50 lengths deficit.

Piere Strydom rode Silver Candle last time out but he is aboard Ex Unitate Vires for Geoff Woodruff. She was beaten a neck by Silver Candle in her first run and now has to give the Tarry runner 4.5kg. She is in good form though, and has run a close second in both of her last two starts.

Rosette has taken on the likes of Sidera and Laverna but has failed to get close to either of them. Charles Laird’s filly has done well against lesser company and could finish in the money.

On the subject of Laverna, Mike de Kock’s filly will be taking on the boys in Race 3, a Graduation Plate over 1600m. She returns from Cape Town where she finished fourth in the Cape Fillies Guineas, despite having to tear off to the front to counter the No 16 draw. Her two previous starts at Turffontein were uninspiring but the addition of both blinkers and a tongue tie, made all the difference at Kenilworth.

She may have a tough task against the likes of Fenerbahce, Acrisius and Fort Petersburg but on handicap, she is weighted to beat all but Fenerbahce and could even make him work hard

De Kock so easily could have put her in Race 4, a Graduation Plate for fillies and mares, but he has entered Gluwein, and based on her 1.95-length fourth to Sidera, she looks the best bet of the evening.
