Racing post Trophy.
15 years 7 months agoElusive Pimpernel winning at york
a race that has worked out well
Look forward to this race every year, a proper test for 2yo colts and fillies over a mile at Doncaster.
This years race looks a cracker with the Favourite St Nicholas Abbey recieving stingy Quotes of 12/1 to do the Racing post/Derby double.O`Briens 2yo son of Montjeu has been lightly raced, but the word from Ballydoyle is that he is their main derby horse for next year and remains unbeaten after two runs.
Main danger and my personal fancy is Elusive Pimpernel trained by John Dunlop and ridden tomorrow by Eddie Ehern.Elusive Pimpernel has impressed me on both his runs to date and he has the look of a future champion stamped all over him.
A strong pace looks assured, which will suit both us and St Nicholas Abbey but i have a preference for John Dunlop`s Elusive Quality Colt.
AL Zir also has an unbeaten record to maintain,by the sire of the moment Medaglia D`oro ,trained by the inform Godolphin operation and ridden by Frankie. His first win was as an impressive looking win as i have seen all year but the form has not mounted to much and he has a bit to prove to me,although im positive he will be top drawer.
K Fallon rides the Peter Chapple-hyam trained Co-ordinated cut another horse with a big shout at running a place,an impressive winner of his first run and being by Montjeu looks assured to stay the trip.
plenty more runners with chances in a crack looking FIELD

The flashy grey that just won the first at Doncaster was 3l behind Dancing David last run,16/1 could be a bit of value DD.

Murtagh says:
"I'm looking forward to it. It's a tough race and a good race. It should give everybody a clear sign of what they've got for next year," said Murtagh.
"He's a nice horse. He's won his two races and we are expecting a big run from him.
"It's a cracking renewal. The Beresford was the perfect stepping stone and we will know more tomorrow.
"Good ground would be lovely and I think everything will be in his favour tomorrow."
Owner of coordenated cut says:
"Whatever wins the race will end up champion two-year-old as it looks a very good race.
"You have two Group Two winners, impressive conditions stakes winners, the first four in the Derby betting and Pete's other horse, Morana.
"Dancing David's form just got franked nicely (at Doncaster) too, so the champion two-year-old should emerge from it.
"I'm not too worried about the form of his last race not working out too well as he was able to quicken away on quick ground, which is a good sign in a Montjeu.
"I'm chuffed to get Kieren (Fallon) again and he likes him as well."
Godolphin says:
"He won at Newmarket on good to soft ground and then won a conditions race at Doncaster on faster ground, but he looks like cut in the ground would be better for him," said trainer Saeed bin Suroor.
"The horse is working well, he worked four days ago and worked very well. Before that Frankie rode him and it was a nice piece work.
"It's a tough race, there are some good horses in there, but he is improving all the time. He is more of a three-year-old, he is a big horse. This is his chance in the Racing Post Trophy and we are looking for a good run from him. The mile will be no problem."
The stable's second string is Al Ghazal, winner of his last two races at Sandown and Leicester.
"His form is good and he is also improving. He worked three days ago and worked very well. I'm very happy with him," Bin Suroor added.

Scotia,
the EE you refer to would not be for a horse but rather a certain jockey who likes to sample from the forbidden fruits!!!
ha hahahahaha

Well after a good check, thought St Nicholas Abbey 2 wins were good enough to make it a hat trick and with Murtagh and O'Brien, as normal will stick with the fav.
good punting

Isn't is amazing how every year Coolmore's owners John Magner and Michael Tabor have the leading 3 year olds. For me the favourite is a bit skinny and I think backing a 2 year old with limited form is always tricky.
Brian Meehan won the race last year with Crowded House, this is what he has to say about Dancing David:
DANCING DAVID JUST THE TYPE FOR THE RACING POST TROPHY
Dancing David may face some stern looking opposition in his bid to follow up stablemate Crowded House's 2008 success in the Racing Post Trophy, but Brian Meehan is more than hopeful the improving son of Danehill dancer can hold his own in what looks a cracking renewal of the final Group 1 race of the domestic season.
A promising second on his first racecourse appearance at Salisbury, Dancing David confirmed he was a juvenile of great potential with an emphatic success in a maiden at Newbury last month.
There were a host of well regarded juveniles in that event, and time may show that, just like Arcano's maiden win in a similar event on the same course in mid-Summer, the race was of a very high quality.
Brian commented:"Dancing David has always looked the part at home and we were very confident he would take all the beating at Newbury after his promising debut effort.
"There were strong messages for a number of his rivals in the race, and he pulled nicely clear of them in the closing stages after making virtually all the running. The Racing Post has always been the race we have had in the back of our minds for him and his work since Newbury suggests he will run a very big race."
