Pat Cosgrave to ride for MDK in South Africa
15 years 8 months ago
JOCKEY Pat Cosgrave is to skip the all weather season this year and go on a Busmans Holiday to South Africa.
He`s looking forward to the challenge, but will return to the UK for the 2010 flat season.
Pat has ridden 56 winners this season including 1 for Mdk at Lingfield on Hawks eye.
"Mike said to come out and ride for him to try something different," said Cosgrave on Tuesday.
"Obviously, Kevin Shea [de Kock's stable jockey] is going to be there for a while, and then go to Dubai, probably after Christmas, but Mike has plenty of horses to run."

No doubt Delpech is a great jockey but i think that this might be part of a bigger deal. I dont know anything but cosgrave rides here for mdk and it might be along the lines of getting to know the string and training methods a bit better. So a bit of a fact finding mission maybe.

EASY..
the MDK training methods is simple and straight forward..
Army style..
till they fit..
then win the mainden and see if the horse has potential..if not..give the horse away...
call the chemical engineers..
get the horse ready..
race 1400, 1600, and then BANG! the big one....note..no sprinters...
jockey instructions..
jump..go to the front or within the first 3...be handy..400out..foot flat on the paddle..whip pulled a few times.. ears pricked...and BANG!..in the box..
start with RUDRA..check every major race since then,2y,3y and other.
just missed the july..2nd and 3rd...
hence, no specific jockey required..
a groom will win, if he rides to instructions...
if the other trainers want to compete, take a lesson from MDK...
its like racing cars..
drive the car till it blows up...or win..
if the car blows up...get a new car..

Greg, Pat Cosgrave is a Journeyman ,who`s done most of his riding for James Boyle one of the top winter trainers.
He started riding in the uk 2004 and his best season was last season when he had 82 winners.
He`s ridden one Group1 winner Borderlescot in the 2008 Nunthorpe,a ride he missed out on this year because he fell out with trainer Robin Bastiman ,because he had missed riding work ,due to having a booked ride for MDK else where.

Still feel that we have enough talent locally.

Why are we becomming xenophobic? How many South Africans live and work in Britain? Hundreds of thousands and here you oakes are complaining because one bloke is going to ride in SA for a few months.

The UK had even more talent when Muis Roberts went there. Nobody in SA was complaining then...and who can blame Pat Cosgrave for ducking the delights of Southwell in a snowstorm for some African sunshine?
