Handicapping triumph

It may have happened before, or perhaps it happens all the time, but for me racing in the Cape came of age when I noticed that the system generated two winners with ratings of less than 60.

5yo mare Cold Hearted Cat ran off a MR58 (10 lbs < best) (& claimed another 5lbs :)
5yo mare Arts Academy ran off a MR59 (20 lbs < best)

We Capetonians had better face the reality that fobbing off our "lower" stock to PE looks to be a thing of the past, and is a misplaced arrogance.

It's a sad day when a so called Major centre produces winners rated 58 and 59 for our studbook and catalogues, where Hcp "winners" are actually 20 lbs inferior to maiden winners. Shame.
