Le Drakkar: "he is the highest-rated three-year-old in South Africa"

Cape Guineas winner Le Drakkar has been sold to Middle East connections and may race in Dubai.

The Australian-bred son of the 1996 July Cup winner Anabaa was also third in the Cape Derby and was due to have his preliminary for the KRA Guineas at Kenilworth on Saturday.

But he was scratched as he had been sold without engagements.
Trainer Dean Kannemeyer said: "There had been offers for him from all over the place ever since he won the Guineas.

"The owners and I discussed them at length and in the end I said ‘I think you have got to take the money'.

"The colt is going overseas. I am not completely sure where yet but it could be Dubai and he will be going into quarantine shortly."

Bloodstock agent Robin Bruss, who negotiated the deal, said: "What made Le Drakkar attractive was that he is the highest-rated three-year-old in South Africa and his performance in the Cape Guineas was dazzling."

Le Drakkar was owned by Laurie and Jean Jaffee in partnership with Somerset-based Karen Newsome's Fieldspring Racing. The Jaffees died last year and their share was inherited by their children.

Horses leaving South Africa for Dubai have to spend 40 days in quarantine before they fly out and then a further month in Europe.

What a shame...I was looking forward to see Oracy against Le drakker in the Daily news and/or July...Hopefully he goes better than year's Cape Guineas winner...
