Turner injured in Newmarket fall

Turner was Britain's first female champion apprentice jockey

Hayley Turner has been taken to hospital following a fall on the Newmarket gallops.

The 26-year-old jockey was riding work for Phil McEntee when the horse she was on broke a leg and fired her into the ground, knocking her unconscious.

She regained consciousness and was then taken by ambulance to Cambridge's Addenbrooke's Hospital where the extent of her injuries is being assessed.

"I've spoken to Hayley. She is conscious," confirmed McEntee.

"She was unconscious for a while but the ambulance crew did a great job."

Turner became the first female jockey to ride 100 winners in a calendar year in Britain in 2008.

McEntee told At The Races: "It was pretty scary. When you see somebody unconscious in that sort of state it is not very nice.

"There were a few Darley head lads around at the time and everybody jumped into action."

Hayley Turner fined over mobile phone breach

HAYLEY TURNER, who is continuing to recover following her fall on the Newmarket gallops last week, has been fined £300 by the BHA disciplinary panel after admitting breaching the mobile phone rules by sending two text messages to her driver from the weighing room at Newcastle on October 1 last year.

The fine was the entry level penalty for the offence, but afterwards the panel said it considers the mobile phone regulations to be a "critical part of the fight against corruption" and warned: "It is likely that much heavier penalties will be imposed in future for even 'innocent' disobedience".

The timing is poor.

Looks like a case of "Kick them when they are down".

Nobody deserves two at a time.
