scotia, please forgive my ignorance but this has never occurred to me. why is the estimated pool so much bigger than the carryover amount - is it as simple as a prediction that Friday and Sunday racing will generate higher turnovers than the midweek pool that was carried over? the attraction of a bigger pool of itself will attract some punters, possibly a factor too.

Afternoon, not really a exotic/tote player, but based on human nature, this is free money that has been lost once and it generates more interest into a bigger pool, much the same as the lotto, when the word carryover is mentioned more people play and normal players play a bit extra, imo

yeah, but if the last P6 pot at greyville was R600k, what makes them think the next one will be R2.7m??? even if you deduct the R600k in there "for free", that's over 3 times the size.

On weekends gross P6 pools are normally somewhere around 1.3m for Natal and Gauteng meetings. If you add the take out back to the carryover it is approx 830k. So we are really only talking about an extra 600 000 or so.
