R400 000 in bonuses for RA members
THE Racing Association is offering added-stake bonuses to its members in certain Maiden Plates from this Saturday.
The total added stakes for these races amounts to R400 000 and these bonuses are only open to paid-up members of the RA.
Hope Lucky is checking?

Trouble,
I had thought that the Racing Association can do what it likes with it's money, especially as it looks like a program to recruit new members. But I don't like this scheme because it means every time a horse wins someone has to check whether the winner is entitled to the big advertised bonus or not, and that's going to have as many negative feelings as positive ones in due course.
However you say "Why does Phumelela distinguish one owner from another?". Well, there is a precedent set with all sorts of restrictive races, not to mention TBA bonuses etc, and nobody complained about those and certainly never blamed Phumelela. If Phumelela said THEIR stakes could only be won by RA members then I think you would have a legitimate gripe. Can you imagine if P decided not Not allow these bonus payments?
In this case the RA will pay to their members, but why the 3 month delay if it is a recruitment drive? Maybe it's just a reward incentive.
I guess this is similar to a local theme park that allows a 20% discount to holders of a specific credit card...some smile- some do not.
But you owners up there better start to stand together, huh? As that bloke on TV said, we owners ARE racing!

If they dont use the 400k cause all DBN horsies on non RA member win. what happen to money.
Programme for R100 000 Maidens
A TOTAL of 30 maiden races programmed for Phumelela regions in 2009 will carry the special stakes bonus for winning owners who are members of the Racing Association.
On the Highveld, there are 20 races with a R20 000 bonus for RA members, in Eastern Cape eight races carry R15 000 extra, and in Northern Cape two carry R10 000 extra.
The Highveld maidens have total prize money of R100 000 each – made up of the standard R80 000 for all maidens in 2009, plus the R20 000 bonus.
The bonus stake races are scheduled for feature race days. The first two will be run on February 7 at Turffontein – along with the Tony Ruffel Stakes, the Three Triokas Stakes, and the Wolf Power 1600. One is a 1600m event for fillies and mares, and the other a 1000m maiden juvenile fillies’ contest.
On Guineas Day – February 28 – three R100 000 maidens are carded.
The extra stakes for the year amount to R400 000 on the Highveld, R120 000 in Eastern Cape and R20 000 in Northern Cape.
The extra prize money comes out of the Racing Trust’s annual contribution to the overall stakes pot – which is funded by dividends from the trust’s shareholding in racing operator Phumelela.
The bonus payment is subject to certain conditions – the key one being that any qualifying owners must be RA members of at least three months standing.
The bonus is halved if any members of an ownership syndicate or partnership are not RA members, but at least one is. If no owners in a partnership are RA members in good standing no bonus is paid.
