you forgot ythe mention the one thing that get the Republicans in. Play the fear card re war. Tell the American public that some middle eastern country have wmd and that they will attack America. Sorry no Bush family to influence the people now. No Cheney, Rumsfeld or Rice to lie to their own people and the world. Just as the UK have seen through Labour the majority of Americans have seen through the Republicans. Remember Obama inherited a country that the Republicans almost ruined with their over spending (just like the ANC had to start all over after the Nats almost bankcrupt SA)
