Ayr does Chandler deal

VICTOR Chandler has taken up a sponsorship package with Ayr in 2009, which started with the whole of yesterday's replacement meeting.

Chandlers will be sponsoring any races which fail to attract sponsors at the Scottish track, which has 27 racedays this year, including the Coral Scottish National and the Ayr Gold Cup.

Blue Square, John Smiths and Totesport already have racedays but Chandlers will be heavily involved at other meetings.

Chandlers spokesman Neal Wilkins said yesterday: "We missed an opportunity to sponsor at Ayr last October but have done a deal with Ayr to sponsor the shoulder races that don't get headline sponsors both over jumps and on the Flat through the year - we have branding up there anyway with our UK Racing contract ."

There have been no developments on the future of the Grade 1 Victor Chandler Chase which the sponsor wants returned to a limited handicap with continued sponsorship also dependent on terrestrial television coverage.
