Inquiry - Jockey Anton Marcus

The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held in Johannesburg on 29 December 2008, Jockey Anton Marcus was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2 in that when riding GOLD ON GOLD in Race 5 at the Turffontein Racecourse on 27 December 2008, he rode this horse in an incompetent and unprofessional manner, in that he deviated from his standard of riding expertise and judgement by relaxing for one stride shortly before the finishing line.

Mr Marcus pleaded guilty to the charge.

The Inquiry Board found Mr Marcus guilty of the charge and imposed a penalty of a fine of R50 000.00, of which R20 000.00 is wholly suspended for a period of one year provided he is not found guilty of a contravention of this Rule during that period.

Mr Marcus has the right of appeal against the penalty imposed.

Yep... he made an error of judgement.. a very rare occurrence with Anton in my opinion. I was mildly surprised that Striker did not get a bit of a mention on Surabi ... definitely eased up before the line...
