Another meeting lost due to lack of runners

Please note that the race meeting scheduled for Vaal (C) on 4 September 2025 has been cancelled due to an insufficient number of declarations.

August has seen several race meetings proceed under significant pressure, including some with cards made up entirely of lower-rated races.

While this situation is far from ideal, it was anticipated that the incentives available to trainers and owners would result in stronger support.

Unfortunately, the continued lack of declarations and support does little to justify or strengthen the case when applying for or maintaining these incentive structures going forward.

This trend will need to be carefully considered when finalising the 2026 fixture schedule for this period.

The number of horses sold over the last two years has stagnated slightly but we shouldn't be in this situation.

The prices have escalated over the last two years but it seems less are racing... how many haven't made it to the race course?

Vaccinations could also be a contribution factor at this time of year ?

However not a good situation

Not sure if anyone scores out of a lost meeting?
maybe the operator?

Trainers are least affected by this. They may have their reasons but they need to engage with the operators to find a solution.
They cannot just sit back and say vaccinations, hard tracks etc while the owners and rest of the industry suffers
