THE modern North American record for consecutive wins was extended to 18 on Sunday when Peppers Pride recorded her latest victory at New Mexico's Zia Park racetrack.
The five-year-old, who has never raced outside of restricted state-bred company, secured a comfortable length success in the $170,000 Filly and Mare Championship, the richest race of the year for her New Mexico-bred division.
Trainer Joel Marr said no decisions have been made as to whether Peppers Pride will race next year or be bred, but the mare could make her next start in a race at Sunland Park on December 14 in which victory would push her career earnings past $1 million.
Peppers Pride has raced exclusively in New Mexico-bred company since winning her career debut in a trial race at Ruidoso Downs on July 16, 2005. She set the record for consecutive wins on October 4 with her 17th straight win, having previously shared the mark with Citation, Cigar, Mister Frisky, and Hallowed Dreams.
