We need A Nother HERO?
1 year 5 days ago
Good morning all.
I think we were looking for a star to appear last weekend but the much anticipated "race of the season" did not materialise and as a result the July field might have lost some of its normal sparkle?
I still think Green With Envy is the horse to beat but it has many doubters.
The one hero that did emerge was Richard Fourie and what a humble chap he is. It's a pleasure listening to him and in my opinion he certainly deserves the sports personality of the year to put racing on the map.
The weather has been rather nippy up North but the sun is shining and I find Pretoria has one of the best climates on the planet.
In addition to the school run for the neighbors' children I have also been collecting his workers from Centurion in the evenings, just to keep the old man busy.😉
When I think of Heroes, Lester and AP come to mind as far as jockeys are concerned and in terms of horses for me it would be Arkle, Mill Reef and Nijinsky.
Locally we've had some great jocks over the years with arguably Michael Robert's being the best 👌
Striker in my opinion is still one of the best and if See It Again arrives then their July combination would be well received 👍
We have local racing this weekend from
PE today where Richard is in town but include Bling in your perms.
Saturday is Greyville
Zackey should have a double with Avernian Goddess and Taxhaven.
Horses of interest to solve the July puzzle
Double Superlative
Without Question 👍
Future Pearl
From the UK we have Royal Ascot next week, it's 5 days from Tuesday 18th to Saturday 22nd .
It's rather early and FYI a daily thread will be on site.
Highlights
Queen Anne : Inspiral
King Charles: Big Evs
St James Palace: Notable Speech 👍
Prince or Wales: White Birch vs Auguste Rodin
Gold Cup: Kyprios should be the banker. 👍
City of Troy will run in the Eclipse on July day and if you can get evens then I would suggest filling your boots. From there possibly the ARC?
Football is back in the limelight.
There is lots of hype and fun videos surrounding Scotland in the Euros and the optimism is second to none from the Tartan Army. My heart will always rule my brain when it comes to my home country so come away the Scots!!!!!
Realistically the betting is in the region of:
England, France are 4/1 Germany 5/1
Then we have Portugal and Spain around 8/1
Looking forward to something special from Mbappe and Ronaldo.
There are plenty of decent options in double figures but you can be the judge of that. It's not impossible for an underdog to do very well 🤞
The group winners should be
Germany 🇩🇪 Spain 🇪🇸 England 🇬🇧 France 🇫🇷 Belgium 🇧🇪 Portugal 🇵🇹
Scotland are in the region of 300/1 to win 🏆 and 12/1 vs Germany if you have any spare cash 💸 💰
Maybe 11/10 to qualify from group? Is more realistic.
I guess there is plenty of song choices with the word HERO in them but Tom Jones again sings well in front of some real heroes who fought and died for us.
With that in mind we ask ourselves has the World ever been in such a poor position in terms of leadership?
Without exception the UK, USA, France and SA have a poor selection of individuals in the race to rule their respective countries 😳
Good Punting 👍

Great post as always Dave !
Richard definitely deserves a look-in for Sports Personality of the year after a herculean effort to get to Anthony's record of 334. I
Royal Ascot for me is the highlight of the British Flat Racing calendar and in particular Day 1 which has quality racing from the start. I agree with your selections and look forward to the daily threads where I will contribute where I can .
No comment on the current circus going on in the UK leading up to General Election.
Good punting folks and enjoy your weekend
