Scottsville P6 - scam
16 years 7 months ago
It would be interesting to see how these horses fare in their next runs :
- Wicked Vixen (Trainer M Dixon)
- Russian Thunder (Trainer SG Tarry)
- Polzeath (Trainer DC Howells)
I take it that these horses will have "specimens taken" for "analysis", as all winners do.
Curious to see the "reported" outcome of these analysis.
Surprisingly, the bulk of the 3 million pool has been won, with approx R60K carryover, so these winners were obviously not a surprise to some "punters".
The going fine for use of illegal substances...R40k....small change when potential winnings are so much more....while luring thousands of punters into contributing to the pool.
Crooked game?...form your own opinion.
Transparency...what is that?

Observer:
Is this a distraction & a fib?
'Muti' (wrapped in a brown packet) from a prominent Gauteng stable was sent via courier to a trainer in KZN?
To catch a P6 Carryover urself, better become a 'muti' man!

I haven't looked at the other two, but three of us on this forum got Polzeath. I have no connection to any trainers, or inside info etc. and got it only by looking at the form. Nothing crooked about that one.

The hollybucks winner had all 3 of the above and only these 3 out of 9 selections.
3 forum posters got Polzeath
AnotherABC poster won a % of the pick six
I think its a mixture of good luck , decent reliable info, and the expectation that the results in KZN are going to be shocking.

Observer,
scam? as in fraud? You name 3 trainers. Do you think they nobbled the favourites too?
What transparency is it you want?
Do you have a grain of evidence that is hidden by opaqueness? Or are these very strong assumptions talking from your pocket.

Whilst some trainers are open with their selections and P6 inclusions, these are just advice. Trainers can never be sure that a 20/1 shot will definitely win.
I agree with Monty that it is a mixture of luck etc, AND in my opinion the construction of the bet plays a big part.

A very interesting article by Andrew Harrison in today's Natal Mercury on this issue of "rockers" winning in the exotics giving rise to carry-overs and/or big dividends. Look up
www.themercury.co.za
or post a fax no. and I'll send it to anyone interested.

1. In response to Umlilo -
You are way of the mark with your "muti" comment. All I can say to this is "Think in a box..remain in a box".
2. Jack Dash : scam/fraud..same thing.
I did say form your own opinion..you are entitled to this, not so.
Your comments, however come across as defensive.
My 1st statement was that I am curious to see how these horses perform in their next run....will you be backing these horses next time out?
These horses could have been trained by any other trainer....the point is that the form of these horse provided no indication that they had a chance of winning.
And as for talking from my pocket...please elaborate.

I'd have to disagree about Polzeath not having a chance of winning on form.
She was returning to a track at which she'd had one start for one win.
She had a win, a 2nd, and a 3rd from 5 starts at the distance.
Her overall form of 3 wins, 5 seconds and 3 thirds from 16 starts (69% top 3 finishes) is that of a decent animal.
Her last 3 runs were not inspiring but the last two were in features and the other was in heavy going - all three essentially throwouts in this mr83 handicap.
Her last win, only 4 runs back was in stronger company, an mr90.
Throw in the stable change and there's no way she should have been 20/1 in a 9 horse field.
