The National Horseracing Authority has been served with a summons of R70 million issued on behalf lawyers acting for Turffontein trainer Tony Peter.
NHA CEO Vee Moodley confirmed to the Sporting Post on Thursday morning that the summons had been received, and was shared with their Board this morning.
He said that due process will follow, but did not add any further comment.

The 2023 Betway Summer Cup was run
in front of a bustling crowd at “The Big T”
on Saturday 25th November and I must
acknowledge 4Racing and Betway on
putting together a superb event. Special
thanks must be made to Betway, not
only did they raise the stake of the main
race to a fantastic R5 million, but their
amazing gesture of giving every Groom
taking care of a horse in the final field of
the Betway Summer Cup a guaranteed
R20 000 incentive was an incredible way
of recognising the contribution of the most
hard-working and dedicated members
of the horseracing industry. To Joburg
Tourism Company, Jonsson Workwear,
New Turf Carriers and South African
Airways a massive thank you for all of
your support. The racing was of a very
high standard and with 5 Graded Races
on the day, patrons were treated to some
inspired performances. I congratulate all
connections and especially those of Royal
Victory, who took the main race piloted by
Muzi Yeni. Turn to page 4 for a full recap of
the special day. Peter Victor who partowns Royal Victory is also our ROA Owner
of the Month, turn to page 13 for this

R70 million for damages - that's a big number, even in a John Grisham novel

Fingers the number is inconsequential. The story here is the NHA getting taken on.

Merely a bigger stick to threaten and then negotiate an a softer outcome...the NHRA don't even have the marbles to fund a defence for starters....but they did put themselves in this predicament with a half arse ill conceived action.....and have only compromised what their intial aim was....I therefore predict a major compromise and some changes at the NHRA....
