PRESS RELEASE
INQUIRY – JOCKEY S KHUMALO
The National Horseracing Authority confirms that at an Inquiry held at the Vaal Racecourse on Thursday, 19 October 2023, Jockey S Khumalo was charged with a contravention of Rule 62.2.2. The particulars being that he rode SHE’S A KLAWER in an unprofessional manner in Race 1 at Vaal Racecourse on 21 September 2023, by failing to take all reasonable measures to ensure that he was sufficiently prepared for the start whilst in the stalls and under Starter’s orders, which led to SHE’S A KLAWER jumping Riderless from the stalls.
Jockey S Khumalo pleaded not guilty but was found guilty of the charge.
The Inquiry Board, after considering the evidence presented and the fact that Jockey Khumalo had made no attempt to mount SHE’S A KLAWER when he was in a position to do so, ruled that Jockey S Khumalo be suspended from riding in races for a period of seven (7) days.
Jockey Khumalo was given the Right of Appeal against both the finding and the penalty imposed.

Dreadful decision.
I have mentioned before according to IFHA rules which is South Africa is part of any riderless horse at the start should be declared a non runner. Why did this not occur in this instance.
Below is the screenshot and link to IFHA. Bob can you find out from them why they did not follow the IFHA ruling.

When the starters flag goes up, surely it means all jockeys on board ,gates closed and ready to go?
