New Approach uneasy at top of Champion Stakes market
NEW APPROACH was eased significantly across the board for the Group 1 Emirates Airline Champion Stakes on Saturday October 18, while French raider Russian Cross was subject to support, being clipped into as short as 4-1 second favourite with some firms.
French trainers have a good record in the 1m2f contest in recent times, with the last two winners coming from across the channel.
Another French trained horse in this year's race is Criquette Head-Maareek's Full Of Gold, but the trainer who won the race in 1993 with Hatoof, does not expect her representative, who is a general 33-1 outsider, to spring a surprise and land the race.
She said: "The horse is fine at the moment although it's going to be difficult to come and beat New Approach. As long as he runs well, I will be very pleased. The ground should be fine for him. That won't be the excuse. Dominique Boeuf takes the ride."
