Track inspection in 30 mins.

Puddles on Polytrack.

Clearly not an all-weather surface.

.....not the jocks fault.....track looked abysmal....pooling water on poly normally indicates a drainage problem ....and is definitely unsafe for both horses and riders....

Is there any major differences between Tapeta and Polytrack. Woodbine in Canada changed to Tapeta and recently a track UK changed to a Tapeta surface. I have seen racing in Woodbine and racing goes ahead in atrocious conditions. Even raced in sleet, etc.

....

.....not really any major difference other than it said that Tapeta tracks have a high amount of recycled rubber in place of the other types of polymer(plastics) in Polytracks.....Tapeta has failed in many places like Dubai, Singapore and USA....mainly because of the higher temperatures and UV radiation....rubber is extremely unstable due to UV and oxidizes and breaks down faster and ,may only work in more temperate and colder climate.....

.....even some of the polymers used are not up to standard as softer plasticized PVC from electrical cable jackets are also mixed into polytrack....and this too degrades faster than rubber in our climate.....but it is getting the ratio of wax, silica and polymer in the right proportions and trying to maintain them in these proportions to suit the climate is the real challenge....

.....forgot to add that the Tapeta system incorporates a porous non woven geotextile layer beneath the substate while polytrack uses an asphalt base instead.....

@ Muthi. All artificial tracks in USA are Tapeta including Gulfstream Park which added Tapeta to its dirt and grass tracks. I know Santa Anita and another big track went back to dirt due to horseman not liking the artificial tracks. The same for Dubai because the Americans stopped going there for the big race. Gulfstream is at the coast and the weather is similar to Durban. In the UK only Lingfield is Polytrack.
