Justin Snaith July runner comments

IT’S HOLLYWOODBETS DURBAN JULY TIME!
Justin is looking to equal Terrence Millard’s haul of six Durban July trophies but winning this historic race is never an easy task, being a handicap run on a sharp course, where luck plays such a major part.
Justin is pleased with his charges and their preparations have gone according to plan over recent months. He goes through each of his runners below.
DO IT AGAIN: “The legend with nothing to prove. He loves KZN and Greyville in particular. He has the best record in the race and comes to stake his claim for a historic third win. His prep run, the Greyville 1900, saw him dispose of the field with contemptuous ease, but without incurring any penalties, leaving his July weight unchanged.
It was never my intention to run him more than once before the July – he is horse who does not take a lot of racing. I could not have the champ any better if I tried. Do it Again, can do it again.”
Jockey – Aldo Domeyer
Weight: 58kg
Odds: 12-1 (great each way bet)
JET DARK: “A horse that takes time and racing to come to hand and requires a fine balance to get him to his very best. He is a true gentleman and horse I thoroughly enjoy working with. He produced an impressive performance in his July prep run in the Gr1 Gold Challenge. Despite stumbling at the start, he recovered like the consummate professional he is to fly home. An excellent effort.”
Jockey: S'manga Khumalo
Weight: 60kg
Odds: 16-1
POMP AND POWER: “After being kindly treated by the handicapper for his Gr1 Cape Derby win, the July has always been the main goal in KZN. He fought Richard the entire way in the Daily News and it is nothing short of a miracle that he still stayed on for second. He has had a lot of schooling to ensure he settles on the big day, and we have adjusted his riding tactics accordingly. He is a serious July contender at the weights.”
Jockey: Richard Fourie
Weights: 53kg
Odds: 7-1
BELGARION: “The 2020 July winner has had soundness issues, so has been prepared on the softer winter tracks in Cape Town, which has worked incredibly well. He will travel to KZN this week fully sound and in great shape. He put up a terrific effort over the 1500m trip last time out, showing that he is coming to hand and returning to full fitness right on schedule. The July is perfectly timed to be his third run after a break.
He is a Titan who will be ridden by a Legend. Anything is possible with this duo and they cannot be ignored over this trip.”
Jockey: Piere Strydom
Weight: 59kg
HOEDSPRUIT: “An unknown, but highly dangerous contender, which is reflected by his support in the betting. Despite a highly creditable performance in the Cape Town Met, his rating remained unchanged, thanks to finishing just out of the placings. This presented a huge opportunity as well as a challenge in getting him into the July without any additional penalties. We are delighted to have achieved a good prep run under his belt without affecting his weight. I feel he is the best handicapped of the older runners and deserves the utmost respect at that weight.”
Jockey: Craig Zackey
Weight: 53kg
Odds: 15-1

No mention of Silver Darling. You can assume it will not be supplemented.
No Marcus jockey booking. Injured?
Interestingly Domeyer on Do It Again. It will be a fairytale if can "Do It Again" for the third time. Domeyer did run fourth on Krambambuli for Snaith.

Snaith has repeatedly said the 3yr old fillies were below the males...at least the ones he trains...so no surprise I suppose....

Interesting jockey arrangements - for me I can't see Belgarion feature - less than impressive comeback efforts in my book and has it all to do at the weights; Pomp and Power - needs to be settled to be a factor and a lot will depend on the pace - will have every assistance from the saddle; Do It Again - think he will finish in the first 4 - loves Greyville, not badly handicapped - I would have preferred a jock that knows him - Marcus injured and probably won't heal in time ? Hoedspruit - well handicapped and another one of my fancies since the first nominations - nothing wrong with Zackey, but I would have thought the ideal opportunity to give Venniker an opportunity - stable probably of the opinion that they prefer someone with more experience
Jet Dark - at his best and with the right pace he will be flying at them - I just think he was primed for the Challenge

Jet Dark - Not ideal when the jockey gets a whip fine in the prep run.

Smanga is a very vigorous rider. Please, check how he galvanized Kind Judy to win even though being bumped by Lerena and looked a beaten horse.
Muzi is another strong rider. He has brought many outsiders home due to his riding ability to keep them going.

28th transgression this season   Should the rule not be amended - as many jocks seem to disregard it

if they suspend a rider for say a month the NHRA get no money but if they keep fining the ATM keeps giving out cash - they show their true colours daily

A "beaten horse" that he gave a beating to...
