Hollywoodbets Durban July Log 31 May
3 years 2 weeks ago - 3 years 2 weeks ago
Safe Passage’s fluent victory in the Daily News 2000 earned the son of Silvano a Golden Ticket for the Hollywoodbets Durban July and he has leapt up to fourth position on the latest HDJ Log which was issued by Gold Circle earlier today.
The other major mover is Waterberry Lane whose performance in the Daily News 2000 has elevated him to 16th spot on the Log. Following the scratchings of Rain In Holland and Double Superlative, the former Summer Cup winner Zillzaal has been promoted to 20th position and the next five in alphabetical order remain as they were when the first Log was issued a few weeks back.

So no Silver Darling as yet - although she qualifies automatically by winning the Woolavington - I suppose she will have to be supplemented first - if the connections want to run her of course

Number 17 and 18 on the log is still up for grabs. Technically its already taken by Silver Darling which has an assured run if entered and the Cup Trial winner.
All of Second Base, Zilzaal, Sovereign Spirit, Fire Alley and Russian Rock who can win their respective races they entered to can get a run.
Al Muthana and Bingwa if placed in the Challenge can get a run in the July.
Marina although a contender in the July due to the weight has top weight in the Cup Trial and maybe will run in the Challenge and must run on board to get a run in the July. Its entered in the Tibouchina as well. Its got the most difficult task to get in.
Nebraas must win the KZN Derby to get in and can be a contender to run a place in the July if it gets in.

As you say, it is much of a muchness ito the final slots; I would say that Red Saxon (unless there was an obvious reason to run so poorly in the Daily News) must be doubtful starter

Silver Darling if supplemented must come in at no 8 (if GC follow their own rules) - the Cup Trial winner does not even get a 'preferential ticket' for the July (only an entry into the Champions Cup) - so then it will be up to the others you mention to put their hand up in the respective races they run in; Zillzaal currently has the inside lane at the moment (when compared to the 'next 5') in making the top 20

Is Belgarion safe?....Is he on the log only because he has a high rating? If he does not win the Pinnacle next week does he really deserve his place when others have been racing to get in for months now...the best horse he faces is only rated 110....

@ Frodo. The Cup Trial does get a preferential ticket and will certainly qualify.
Those that entered and has a lively chance of winning are, Russian Rock, Sovereign Spirit and Fire Alley. Marina should be right there but the weight of 61 could be telling.
Warrior if it wins can get in.
Chollima was impressive in the PE Derby has an outside chance of winning. Silvano's Timer is still nominated for the July so Kannemeyer must be expecting something from him. They merit ratings are low.
By the way in the Daily News I placed Monashada and backed Silver Darling. Bye Bye Bombshell did not get its full penalty but Monashada hiked so much is unbelievable as other clanners mentioned after being beaten by the former prior. Chollima is rated 90 at the moment so in theory suppose to be over the rating of Monashada 106, close to 110? Chollima should win any handicap in its band when it runs next in essence.

@Naresh, I think you need to check the conditions of the Cup Trial and the July qualifying races .... Cup Trial winner just a preferential entry in the July
Oops .... that' what you said

I don't think he has done enough to justify a place in the July this year. If he doesn't win the pinnical race up next IMHO he should be axed, but Mr Snaith knows how to talk his way into getting his horses into the July.

Kannemeyer On The July Highway
Three entries in Hollywoodbets Durban
Saturday’s R750 000 Gr1 Golden Horse Sprint favourite Cosmic Highway is in good shape for a big run on the occasion of the 2022 renewal of the Hollywoodbets Scottsville Festival Of Speed raceday.
The 3yo’s have a good record in this race – winning 70% of the past ten runnings.
The winner of the Khaya Stables Gr2 Diadem Stakes at the end of the Cape Summer Season, Cosmic Highway finished under a length behind Zapatillas in the Gr2 World Sports Betting Guineas on 7 May and has come on since that good showing.
“He is in good shape, although I would have enjoyed a few gates lower than his 15 draw. One never knows whether they will race from the inside, middle or outside down the strip at Hollywoodbets Scottsville. But, either way, he is an easy horse to ride and Keagan (De Melo) will have had four earlier sprints on the day to help him make his tacticalcall,” said Kannemeyer.
Cosmic Highway has only had one previous start in the Capital City – that when a three length third behind Good Traveller in the 2021 Gr3 Godolphin Barb.
“That was only his third start and the race was over 1100m. He was all at sea and outpaced. He has learnt to race and, as stated, he is an easy horse to ride.”
When quizzed on his yard’s Hollywoodbets Durban July prospects, Kannemeyer said that 3yo Waterberry Lane, who competes in the famous Rattray silks, would run after his recent Daily News 2000 showing.
“He was finishing his race off well in the Gr1 Daily News 2000 and while we could not have beaten the winner on the day, we were only a minor margin behind the second and third horses. We were at 16 on the latest big race log published on Tuesday, so we remain hopeful of getting a run.”
The Milnerton veteran also has Cape Guineas winner Russian Rock and the lightly exposed Silvano’s Timer – a winner at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday – entered in the Hollywoodbets Durban July.
“Russian Rock ran a cracker in the IOS Drill Hall Stakes when he ran on well for second. He had no luck in running, with a horse on his inside pushing him out on the turn. I am going to let him take his place in the Gr1 Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge on 11 June, and he would probably need a top 3 finish there to show us he is ready to run in the July.”
Kannemeyer feels that while Silvano’s Timer’s win in a Conditions Graduation Plate on the polytrack at Hollywoodbets Greyville on Wednesday was a pleasing indication that he is on the right track after a long time off, the Hollywoodbets Durban July may just come ‘too soon’ for the 4yo.
Silvano’s Timer had been off for 16 months after he pulled up with a hairline fracture of his pelvis in the Gr1 Cape Guineas behind stable companion Russian Rock and spent six months recuperating on Jane Thomas’s farm in Mooi River.
“A lot of work has gone into this horse,” Kannemeyer told Gold Circle’s Andrew Harrison. “It was a win full of merit.”
He is an entry in the Cup Trial on Hollywoodbets Gold Challenge day, and the top trainer says that decisions will be made thereafter.
“While he has been given plenty of time and Lady Christine Laidlaw has shown immense patience, I feel that we may just be short of time for the Hollywoodbets Durban July. But let’s make that call in a few weeks,” he concluded.

Al Muthana booked its July Ticket. If Silver Darling is nominated it will take up two definite slots.
The horse that is in danger now moving down is Waterberry Lane
