Work Rider Sam Mosia 1000 rides

According to Gallop he has now ridden 1002 mounts.

128 winners at 12.77 strike rate. 10 million in stakes.

Why has he not been given a chance like Lyle and Rachel to ride as a fully fledged jockey?

seems to have the skills.

just an addition he has been top WR 5 of the last 6 seasons

Sly both Lyle and Rachel were allowed into the academy. Lyle did his time and Rachel will do hers. There have been one or two work riders who "qualified" after showing promise and struggled. One of them tragically died in a car crash, his name escapes me now.

They not good enough to make that type of step imvho

Serino Moodley rode as did Calvin Habib....Louis Nhlapo the current stipe may have been one of the first to cross over as a jockey ....I have noticed lately that some of these riders are losing their irons and others look sloppy.... I don't think the standard is as high as it was before

The 1st workrider who became a jockey was Petrus"Yeke" Ndlovu. MHSRIP
He rode many a winner for James Maree and Buddy Maroun, especially at Newmarket racecourse.
Without the necessary support and backing even the best and most talented jockey will be mediocre.

James Maree needs to be "remembered" for his contribution to South African Racing...;)

The late Abie Fourie could have been one of the first or if not the first work rider to be granted a jockey license. He should ride for James Goodman from what I can remember.

What happened to Erin-Lee Watkinson, haven't seen her riding in any of the work riders races lately? Injured maybe?
